The 20th Annual Orange & Black Ball presented by Kaiser Permanente was held on Saturday, August 24th in the Janssen-Lagorio Gymnasium at University of the Pacific. The event brought together 600+ supporters of Pacific athletics to support UOP's 300+ student-athletes.
This year's title sponsor was Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser is committed to helping shape the future of health care. They are recognized as one of America's leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans. Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente has a mission to provide high-quality, affordable health care services and to improve the health of their members and the communities they serve. They are in favor of anything that lets you have fun and be healthy and were happy to support the PAF's Orange & Black Ball!
Guests were welcomed by our Pacific student-athletes as they arrived, found their seating assignments on our custom seating-chart, and were greeted with a glass of champagne from the champagne wall.
The evening began with a cocktail hour giving guests the opportunity to browse silent auction items, mingle with others, visit wine and beer tasting stations, and enjoy hors d'oeuvres catered by Angelinas and served by Pacific student-athletes.
We partnered with Qtego Auction Services giving guests the ability to bid for items via their cell phones and tablets. Guests unable to attend were also able to bid remotely.
Beer and wine tasting stations were available to our guests thanks to our generous partners: Altamont Beer Works, Five Window Brewing Company, Langetwins Family Winery, Mettler Family Vineyards, Oak Ridge Winery, and Weibel Family Winery.
The PAF partnered with Luster to create a custom hashtag mosaic throughout the evening! Photos taken by guests and posted to social media using the hashtags #OBB20 and #UpRoar were instantly printed out from one of four hashtag printers for guests to keep. Photos that were a "match" were then printed on stickers to be placed onto the corresponding square of the mosaic to make up one large image.
By the end of the night, a combination of 1,096 small photos consisting of photos from the event and from Pacific athletics over the years, made up one large 4'4" x 4'4" custom Pacific themed photo! Scroll down to see what former Pacific student-athletes were featured!
A look at some of our guest's photos that were taken throughout the night for the hashtag mosaic are shown below.
This year's master of ceremonies was University of the Pacific alum, motivational speaker, and professional leadership coach, Amanda King. She began the evening by bringing up two very special people to Pacific athletics, Duane Isetti and Jim Dugoni. Both these men have not only served as emcee's themselves at previous Orange & Black Ball's, but started this annual fundraiser for Pacific athletics 20 years ago!
Duane took the mic first as he welcomed special guests that were in attendance, including:

The next speaker to take the stage was University of the Pacific Director of Athletics, Janet Lucas. She gave her welcoming remarks, reflected on her first year as a Tiger, and her vision of what is to come. She then took a moment to recognize the evening's title sponsor, Kaiser Permanente.
Senior Vice President of Kaiser Permanente and current Board of Regents member, Corwin Harper, was then invited to the stage for the title sponsor check presentation.
Harper then took a moment to give his remarks about why Kaiser wanted to support the Orange & Black Ball as well as touched on the importance of mental wellness in athletics that led into a short video.
Amanda then took a moment to gather everyone's attention as she asked for complete silence and their undivided attention as she introduced the evening's Fund-a-Need appeal. This year, the PAF chose to raise funds for a growing area of need in college athletics - mental wellness. A short video was then played.
Amanda then welcomed junior women's soccer player, Nikki Leishman, to the stage to share her own personal story on mental wellness.
Following Leishman's story, Amanda asked for the crowds help in raising a goal of $10,000 that would go towards supporting mental wellness initiatives for our student-athletes. Guests were able to give right through through their phones by texting in their donations and see their name appear on the projection screens.
Thanks to the generosity of our guests, in less than 2 minutes, we had surpassed our goal of $10,000! Amanda then made an announcement that if we could raise another $5,000, Derek Dobbins and Crestwood Behavioral Health would MATCH IT, bringing us to a total of $20,000 for the 20th Annual Orange & Black Ball!
It didn't stop there! After reaching $20,000, we had 2 more matches step up! Both Amanda King and Watts Equipment Co. matched $2,500 of their own, bringing the total to $27,215 raised for mental wellness! This marks a fund-a-need record for Pacific athletics since beginning 5 years ago! Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
