Paul Newman Style icon

Paul Newman was one of the great style icons of the 20th Century. With his blue eyes, good looks and lean figure, he was the epitome of style in movies like Hud, The Hustler and Cool Hand Luke. But he always looked great off screen too, whether going for Hollywood glamour, preppy cool or rugged man's man. Here's a celebration of some of his classic looks.

Preppy Style

V-neck sweater and plain front trousers; classic wool and cotton pieces plus canvas sneakers equal effortless cool. Newman seemed to just throw these together unselfconsciously. His most relaxed look.

1. Slim Fit Button-Down White Shirt. Thom Brown.

2. V-Neck Wool Sweater. Maison Margiela.

3. Slim Fit Cotton Chinos. Aspesi.

4. Converse Jack Purcell. Converse.

I'd like to be remembered as a guy who tried — tried to be part of his times, tried to help people communicate with one another, tried to find some decency in his own life, tried to extend himself as a human being. Someone who isn't complacent, who doesn't cop out.

Late Night Cool

Staples of a man's wardrobe: black suit; dress shirt; knit tie; Oxford shoes. Simple. Timeless.

1. Superior Cotton Shirt. Emma Willis.

2. Virgin Wool-Gabardine Suit. Saint Laurent.

3. Black Knitted Silk Tie. Drake's.

4. Consul Classic Oxford Shoes. Church's.

A man can only be judged by his actions, and not by his good intentions or beliefs.

For the Weekend

1. Cotton Polo Shirt. James Perse.

2. Skinny Fit Stretch-Denim Jeans. Acne Studios.

3. Weejuns Penny Loafer Burgundy. G.H Bass.

4. Runwell Stainless Steel & Nylon Watch. Shinola.
