Meierijstad Jasper Beks

Meierijstad is since January 1st county in North-Brabant. North-Brabant is a province in the Netherlands. There are 3 core areas: Veghel, Schijndel and Sint-Oedenrode. The mayor of Meierijstad is Marcel Fränzel. In Meierijstad are different villages: Veghel, Schijndel, Sint-Oedenrode, Erp, Nijnsel, Zijtaart, Boskant, Mariaheide, Eerde, Wijbosch, Keldonk, Olland, Boerdonk. In the Netherlands and in Meierijstad too, there is something special: Sinterklaas. They celebrate the Birthday of Saint-Nicholas. St. Nicholas’ eve is celebrated annually with the giving of gift on December 5th.

Veghel

In Veghel was from 1900-2013 a hospital. From 1900-2000 it had the name: Sint-Joseph Ziekenhuis. From 2000 it had the name: Bernhoven. But since 2012 there is a cinema. Since January 1st, 2017, it an element of the municipality Meierijstad. Before 2017, it was an element of municipality Veghel. Veghel also have two high schools: Zwijsen College and Fioretti College. There was also a train: Het Duits Lijntje or Der Boxteler Bahn. but it is lifted in 2005. The train went from Boxtel (the Netherlands) to Wesel (Germany). There are also outdoor shopping malls. There are supermarkets, clothing stores, cafés, bakers and butchers. There is also a big company: Vanderlande. It makes graders for example airports.

If you’re coming for tourism, there are some places to pass the night: Hotel slapen in Veghel at Zeven Eikenlaan 48 in Veghel, Ons Boerderijke at De Kuilen 19 in Veghel, Mini-Camping Favora at De Kuilen 11 in Veghel, Het goeie leven at Vlagheide 8b in Veghel, Bed and Breakfast Hof van Eerde at Zandvliet 25 in Veghel, Hampsire Hotel Fitland at Stadhuisplein 3 in Veghel, Hotel ‘t mirakel at Kapelstraat 1 in Veghel, Minicamping Aachterum at Meerbosweg 25 in Erp, Vakantieboerderij de Leijgraaf at Derptweg 15 in Vorstenbosch and Bij Roozen at Scheiweg 7 in Vorstenbosch. You also can go cycling or walking. You can also go to the koekbouw. It is an old factory and you can get in for free. You can take a look and you’ll see very interesting machines. For €5,- you can go into SIEMei. It is a museum next to the koekbouw. There you can see many things that were in the factory. You’ll have a guide and he will tell you something about the koekbouw.

Schijndel

Schijndel has a High school: Elde College. There is bilingual education. There you get Maths in English, not in Dutch. Het Duits Lijntje went too through Schijndel. formerly, Schijndel had six villages: Schijndel, Wijbosch, Elschot, Borne, Lutteleind and Broekstraat. Now, Schijndel has two villages: Schijndel and Wijbosch. Before 2017, Schijndel was an element of municipality Schijndel. Schijndel also has shopping malls. There are druggists, shoe shops and supermarkets. In Schijndel is the biggest campshop in the Netherlands: De Wit. You can buy tents and caravans, but clothes too. There are also swimming pools or barbecues. In Schijndel are many shops, but I think, De Wit is the biggest in Schijndel.

There are campings too: Mini-camping ‘t skonste plekske at Langstraat 34 in Schijndel, Het Goeie leven at Vlagheide 8b in Eerde and De Miesboule at Lieseindestraat 1a in Schijndel. There is also a camperplace. you can stay there for 48 hours and it costs €4,00/night. There are also routes to cycle or to walk.

Sint-Oedenrode

The name Sint-Oedenrode comes from the holy saint Oda. Sint-Oedenrode hasn’t got a High school. Sint-Oedenrode has four villages: Sint-Oedenrode, Nijnsel, Boskant and Olland. Before 2017, Sint-Oedenrode was an element of municipality Sint-Oedenrode. Formerly, Sint-Oedenrode was the only place that had city rights. Sint-Oedenrode has started next to the River De Dommel. The border between Sint-Oedenrode and other Municipalities is formed by De Dommel. In Sint-Oedenrode is a centre too. There are lots of shops. There are cafés, supermarkets, clothes shops. In Sint-Oedenrode are no big companies, but there is a Baby-Dump distributions centre, for Baby-Clothes and accessories.
