World AIDS Day 2018 December 1, 2018

#WAD2018

On World AIDS Day, USAID celebrates the 15th Anniversary of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR. USAID has been a proud implementer of PEPFAR since its inception in 2003. While HIV/AIDS has taken more than 35 million lives worldwide, today the disease is no longer a certain death sentence. Thanks to PEPFAR, millions of people in the world can now choose to know their status; to stay healthy through a variety of interventions, and, if they are HIV-positive, access life-saving antiretroviral drugs. Thanks to American generosity and through exceptional partnerships, today there are countries that are on the brink of HIV/AIDS epidemic control – a critical step in tackling one of the greatest development challenges of our time.

For World AIDS Day 2018, the U.S. government is promoting the global theme "15 Years of Saving Lives through American Leadership and Partnerships." Please contact oha-communications-team@usaid.gov for more information. Visit www.usaid.gov/world-aids-day to learn more.
