Packing Tips

Banking

  • Inform your bank you are travelling abroad. Otherwise your card will be blocked the first time you use it
  • If you are using a credit card, make sure you have a plan with no international fees
  • Always carry cash: many places in Italy do not accept credit cards
  • Best place to get cash is an ATM: check with your bank on foreign transaction fees
  • Bring some cash with you. DO NOT go to the currency exchange booth in the airport: it may look like a good deal but there are hidden fees (usually hidden because they are called “taxes”)
  • The ATM in the airport is fine (BUT NOT THE CURRENCY EXCHANGE BOOTH!!)

Packing

  • Do yourself a favor and pack light
  • Bring a carry-on suitcase or small duffle bag for travel during the program
  • Comfortable walking shoes with a good tread
  • Unless they are essential, buy toiletries, etc. in Italy
  • Plan to wash clothes and bring items that can hang dry quickly
  • Consider that you might want to purchase clothes in Italy
  • Make sure you have adapters and converters for your electronic equipment
