I chose pharmacy because I wanted to use my knowledge, compassion and talents to lead others to a more physical, mental and social fulfilling life.
Why Ole Miss?
I fell in love with the beautiful Ole Miss campus and town of Oxford when visiting for a volleyball camp in high school. I applied for the Early Entry pharmacy program, and I was extremely impressed with the friendliness of the students, faculty, and staff; all of the opportunities the school offered; and the great reputation of the school. No other school compared to how the people at Ole Miss made me feel like home.
How do you feel about your new ACCP appointment?
I am extremely excited and honored to hold this position and to ultimately promote the profession of clinical pharmacy. I applied to be a member of the advisory committee thinking I had little chance of being on the committee let alone be the vice chair and chair the following year. I look forward to working diligently with the other committee members to advocate for patient care, and I cannot wait to get started at the annual meeting this fall in Seattle, Washington. I have several ideas that I believe could be implemented in the student chapters that will lead to a stronger pharmacy profession and even expand clinical pharmacy.
What other organizations are you involved in?
I am currently the director of projects for the UMMC Quality Improvement Student Interest Group, historian of my pharmacy class and secretary-treasurer of Ole Miss’s ASHP-SSHP chapter. I will be helping to promote the Flu Blitz across the UMMC campus this fall along with coming up with funding for students to go to the ASHP Midyear Meeting. Last year, I was the regent (president) of Kappa Psi. Some of the other pharmacy organizations that I like to be involved in include APhA-ASP, ACCP-SCCP and Prescription for Service. I have really enjoyed being a part of the Prescription for Service Health Screenings and APhA’s Operation Immunization. I also enjoy volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Reach Out and Read, and Wellness on Wheels.
Favorite place to study?
Honestly, I study at my apartment on my couch or in my bed mostly. I like being comfortable and not having distractions around. My favorite place to study on campus would be one of the Honors College’s classrooms. I like being able to talk and move around while studying.
What are your career goals?
I plan to pursue a career in clinical pharmacy after receiving my Pharm.D. and completing a residency. My objective is to decide which area I would like to focus on during my rotations and residence. I am currently considering critical care, cardiovascular medicine, pain management and different chronic diseases as my focus area. I would love to work in a hospital or clinic.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy playing with my dog, hanging out with friends, going to concerts and attending sporting events.
