Our Mission Statement:

Our goal as physical educators is to provide an energetic environment in which learners develop knowledge and skills to become self-motivated and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

A day in the life of Westgate P.E. student:

Warm-Ups: Students participate in a warm-up activity designed to get their hearts beating, blood flowing, and brains firing. Some examples include HIIT exercises, partner workouts, class oriented games. All warm-ups include music to energize and pump you up!

Coaches Instruction: Your Westgate P.E. coaches provide learning goals, vocabulary explanations, and directions for the day/week to come so students have a clear idea of what they're learning and practicing at P.E.

Student Work: Stations are set up and designed to allow students opportunities to practice the knowledge and skills from various units while interacting with classmates in small groups.

Example Activity Units

  • Recreational activities - Bocce, horseshoes, shuffleboard, bowling, roundnet
  • Catching and Throwing - Baseball/softball, football, frisbee
  • Striking - Baseball/softball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, badminton, pickleball
  • Dribbling - Basketball, soccer, hockey
  • Fitness

Super Sports:

We spotlight one student per class every week as our Super Sport. The student is chosen based on how he/she exemplified Westgate's Guidelines to Success: honesty, cooperation, responsibility, and respect.
