What is the Pentathlon

  • The Pentathlon was a combination of 5 events. The events included are discus, javelin, jump, running, and wrestling.

What are the Rules?

  • The Penathlon was a combination of two types of events which were the light events : jumping, running, and javelin. Then there were heavy events : discus and wrestling.
  • It is still somewhat unknown of how the winner is determined. The main thought that the athlete has to win all 5 or only 3 events, so a winner was probably rarely rewarded.

Interesting Facts

  1. The running race was about 200 yards in length
  2. On day two in the afternoon, the Pentathlon took place

Similarities to Modern Day

  • As the Olympics have always come every four years, so has the Pentathlon with it.
  • The only event that remains the same in the Pentathlon is running.
