Synopsis: Michelangelo was born on March 6th 1475 in Caprese Italy. He was born as Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. His family was in the banking buisness. He was not interested in school education he was interested in art and sculpture. He was an apprentice to a painter before studying in the sculpture gardens of the powerful Medici family. He was a painter, architect, poet, and sculptor. He died on February 18th 1564. His most famous pieces of work were, the Sistine Chapel, David, and the Pieta.

Childhood: Michelangelo had four brothers. His father served as a magistrate in the small village where they had lived. When he was just a young boy, his mother got ill and he was sent to live with a family of stone cutters. At the age of thirteen he became an apprentice to a fashionable florentine painters workshop. A few years later he was exposed to the art of fresco, a painting done rapidly in watercolor on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colors penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries.

Training/ Education: Michelangelo was more interested in watching painter paint churches than in school. He started painting at the age of 13. He was introduced to anatomy when he was working with the Medici family. Between 1489-1492 he was permitted to study under the respected sculptor Bertoldo di Giovanni. He created the "Battle of Centaurs" and "Madonna Seated On a Step" when he was just 16.

Achievement 1 David: Michelangelo created the David between 1501 and 1504. David is located in the Accademia Gallery in Italy. The David is 5.16 meters tall (almost 17 feet). The sculpture is made of one slab of pure white marble. It weighs 5,660 kg (12,478.12 lbs). The statue is based on one of the characters in the story, "David and Goliath". One feature that is very life like and is famous is his hands, what makes them look so real are the veins.

Achievement 2 Pieta: Another magnificent piece of art work that Michelangelo created was called the Pieta. The pieta was a statue that was made in 1499. The Pieta was the only piece of work by Michelangelo that was signed. The statue has the Virgin Mary and Jesus, where Jesus is laying on Mary's lap. This piece of artwork made Michelangelo famous when he was just the age of 24. The sculpture shows emotion, faith, and imitation.

Achievement 3 Sistine Chapel: Michelangelo created the Sistine Chapel in 1512. It is 4,500 centimeters tall. It's length is 1,400 centimeters. The type of art this was was a painting, it was a fresco. The most famous part of the painting is called "Creation of Adam". The creation of Adam is where Jesus Christ and Adam from Adam and Eve are very close to touching hands but not quite. The painting is not framed it is actually on a ceiling.

Review: Michelangelo di Lodovoci Bounarrati Simoni was and still is one of the most famous sculptors, architect, painter, and poet that the world have ever known and will know. His passion for his work and his grit is what made his art so magnificent. He is an inspiration to to young artists all around the world wanting to fufill their dreams.
