First Trimester: Week 1-13

Dear Diary,

Hallelujah!!! Lucas and I are finally having a baby. We are having mixed emotions as this is our first child, but over all we are ecstatic!!! Our families are very supportive of our decision to keep our child even though we are young. For the past few weeks, I have been overwhelmed with morning sickness, i also feel myself getting more and more tired as each day progresses , I found out this is caused by my blood sugar levels changing. My breasts have began to feel tense, start to tingle and increased in sensitivity.Lucas and I have gone for an ultrasound and we found out that I am 7 weeks pregnant. The nurse explained to us that our baby has grown around 10,000 times bigger than it was when it was when we first conceived and my baby's has a heart which beats . At 8 weeks, our baby will be about 1cm long and its lungs will form also its fingers, toes , lips, eyelids, and legs are becoming more clear. At 9 weeks, our baby's mouth and tongue is starting to form. Its hands will be webbed, but will start to separate into fingers and it will also start to move around. By week 13, mostly our baby's organs are developed, its brain is large and the digestive system is forming. Its genitals are formed but it is to early to tell the gender. The baby's tooth buds are developing, fine hairs covers all its body and its facial features are more clear. The bones which are soft have started to harden.Lucas and I are so excited for my first trimester to finish so we are closer to our baby is born. I know we are young but we couldn't me more greatful. I just hope everyone else is as happy as we are.

2nd trimester

Second trimester : week 14-27

Dear diary,

Oh my gosh! I have started to form a baby bump, from now to the end of my second trimester it will only keep getting bigger and bigger. Lucas and I are getting more excited as everyday goes by but we are a bit uneasy about what people think about us having a baby as we are in our finale year of high school. The nausea has began to settle down but I have started to get a stuffy nose. I know This sounds silly but I have started to worry about this baby for example like how it is going in there, if it is healthy and overall its over all well being. I have purchased a couple pregnancy magazines but the one which has gave me the most information is Mums with Bubs. I have found out what will happen to our baby from weeks 14-19 until I find out what gender the baby is. From weeks 14-15, our baby boy or girl will be the size of clenched fist. Its eyelids are fully formed but are still fused to the eyes and this will be like this throughout the whole second trimester. Our baby will be able to to swallow and will soon will start to swallow the amniotic fluid and recycling it through the kidneys. It will be 13 centimetres in week 16, it will start to move more and this is good as the movement helps our baby's muscles to grow. Weeks 17-19, the baby will start to form eyebrows and eyelasheS. It has a white oily coating known as Vernix Caseosa which protects the skin. Today was the ultrasound( week 20), Lucas and I are so grateful for this baby no matter the gender. We were welcomed by the nurse and she started to ask my question while she was doing the ultrasound like how I was coping with being a teen mum and if I have been feeling sick lately. I saw a baby come on the screen and we couldn't be more happy, She said our baby is 21 centimetres long and healthy and which is amazing. The four words I will always remember is " It is a boy". I remember turning around to Lucas and seeing he had as big a smile as me in his face. For future help for this trimester the nurse she give us a pamphlet stating a summary of what will happening to my baby boy for the last few weeks. Throughout the next seven weeks our baby boy will go from around the length of a banana to 22 centimetres. There is a lot of movement happening such as the baby starts to be able to respond to touch through the abdominal wall and can move in response to put gentle pressure on your tummy wall. He will start to hear muffled sounds so it recommends that I play music or Lucas and I talk to him. He will also start to be able to see now so he will be more active throughout the day. Our baby boy's air sacs are forming in the lungs and throughout this time the lungs will develop. It's still unbelievable that I'm now over half way through the pregnancy, I can't wait for what else has to come.

3rd Trimester

Third Trimester : Weeks 28-42

Dear diary,

Holy Guamcomle!! How much support Lucas and I are getting is incredible, I still can't believe the help and encouragement our school has shown we are so grateful. My baby bump started to show more at the end of trimester two. We told our year group at the start of this trimester and everyone was so supportive of us. But let me tell you this pregnancy hasn't been all fun and games, it's been hell at times. It is gets me how such people as Beyoncé who slay the game when pregnant, like how can you look so perfect throughout pregnancy cause trust me I don't. I'm getting bigger and bigger everyday , my belly is around the size of a basketball. When I thought I was exhausted on normal school nights when I wasn't pregnant let me tell you that was nothing, right now I'm so tired it's not funny. Lately, I have been worrying about the birth and everything even though it isn't for another month or two. Lucas and my parents surprised us with a full furnished and painted nursery which we are unendingly grateful for, one last thing to stress about. A few friends of ours recommended at try out this group which helps teen parents with the pregnancy. We have learnt quite a lot from the meetings we have attended the last few weeks. It has boosted our confidence and happiness seeing that we have more support and help from other people. They give us a booklet with has information about what we have to know for the trimester 3. It informed as that though the first few weeks ( weeks 28-30), our baby will reach the weight of one and a half kilograms. The brain will mature very fast, do it recommends that I eat healthy foods to help that and to avoid fish. At week 31, our baby can be born as it can probably be able to manage it self pretty well. From weeks 32-35, exact to feel my baby rolling around more as it sleeps. It will gains around 450 grams which may not sound a lot but newborns only gain around 150-200 grams in the first few months. Our baby boy's skin is still a little red and loose. It can now blink, move, grab and grasp but it will not know it's doing these things. Our baby is around 500 centimetres long and it's brain is developing at an enormous rate. My baby could be born at 35 weeks as it's considered term. It will be born any time from now onwards. It's skin starts to be less wrinkly and more layers of fat form. From week 39 to the end of trimester 3 (week 42), the baby can come at anytime as it is ready for independent life. My nerves have started to come more and more everyday and I can see the same goes for Lucas but hopefully when our baby boy does come into this world we are ready.

Labour

Dear diary,

You got to be kidding me!! All hopes for this baby to come when we were ready has been blowed out the window. Let me tell you it couldn't come out a more worst time. So many people were thinking it would come on my baby shower at 38 weeks but no. He decided to come when I was graduating high school. I remember that morning prayering that he wouldn't come today but obviously God wasn't on my side. I was walking up the stairs to get my certificate and I felt water go down my leg, sharp pains going in my belly. I knew then that this baby was coming today. Lucky we only live five minutes away so when Lucas was bringing me to hospital my parents could get my stuff. All I remember about the ride there was pain and also happiness but mostly pain. We got to the hospital and nurse got me ready for birth but guess what he didn't wants come out for 16 whole hours. They tried everything the bath , birth bar and the bed. Those whole 16 hours was hell but Lucas was a huge help. He was getting me as comfortable as I could be and also getting anything to help me through this. He was overwhelmed with how much pain I was going though even with the medicine. At around 14 and a half hours they told me my cervix has stretched to where it should be (10cm). I started to push, I remember how supportive and motivating Lucas and all the nurses and doctors were. After 1 and 40 minutes of pushing our sweet baby boy was welcome to the world. I remember seeing him for the first time and all the pain I felt went away, Lucas' smile never faded same as mine. At 7:48pm, on Friday the 7th of August , our beautiful baby boy Alecxander James Stolk was welcome to the world. At 7.6 pounds and 51 centimetres long, he has his father hair, eyes and nose and my face, Lips and smile. When Alec's eyes opened for the first time the beautiful light blue was shown. I had to stay for a few days in hospital as the nurses had to do some tests on Alec and I to make sure we were healthy. Starting to breastfeed while I was in hospital, it was a strange but joyful experience but it took some time getting used to. This whole pregnancy may have had its ups and downs but overall it was an amazing experience. Lucas and I overjoyed with our baby boy Alec and wouldn't want him anyone way.
