On March 17, 2017, MESA held the State Championship for the prosthetic arm challenge. Teams were required to build a prosthetic arm with 80 dollars or less that could toss beanbags and relocate objects. They were also required to write a technical paper, make an academic poster, and have an oral presentation. Chaparral Middle had 5 teams that qualified to compete in Albuquerque. All teams were competing against each other; there were a total of 58 teams at the competition. One CMS’s teams placed first Overall. This team will be the only middle school team representing the State of New Mexico, this June 21-24 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the National MESA USA prosthetic arm Competition. This team is Chaparral Middle School Team #4-Luis Jimenez, Kevin Ramos, and Alfredo Sepulveda.
