Operating systems that store vast amounts of knowledge are currently being developed by engineers around the world. The development of these machines take the form of many different ways like deep learning. Furthermore, complex algorithms are also the basis of some AI technology. Researchers from Stanford developed an algorithm to diagnose skin cancer using a collection of 130,000 images representing over 2,000 diseases is stored within the algorithm (Kubota). These operating systems take a lot of time and energy to create; however, its ability to complete complex tasks efficiently is why many companies are investing in it.

Companies like Google and Microsoft have assisted universities financially in their research involving artificial intelligence (AI). Moreover, businesses are also investing manpower into the development and implementation of AI systems. Businesses are providing financial support and manpower to this versatile range of technology that is AI. As AI technology progresses, it will become more and more industry specific most likely depending on which business sector is investing in it the most.

When the winning AI system and pathologists examined samples together, accuracy rates increased to 99.5%.The database for the AI system includes over thousands of cancer cell images and diagnoses. Researchers can retrain the AI system with more images to increase accuracy rate (“Artificial Intelligence System…”). These operating systems hold a lot of potential in improving the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostics made by medical practitioners. Expert Ron Gutman, founder and chief executive officer of HealthTap, explains at an intellectual conference that “it is time to go beyond search engines” when searching one’s symptoms. He believes AI can analyze symptoms with context and assist individuals by referring them to specialists depending on their response (“Davos 2017 - Artificial Intelligence”). There are high hopes for AI to improve diagnostic procedures. AI operating systems are currently being developed to complete industry specific tasks, but when unspecialized this tool can improve daily life as well.
