Academics, Seminars, Options and Exposures

We continue to offer our students an abundance of skills-based and special-interest courses (Option 9, Exposure 8 and Seminar 8 & 9) designed to prepare them for high school and employment. These hands-on, activity-based courses are 6 weeks each for grade 8s and 12 weeks each for grade 9s.

All our grade 8 students take Skills for Success, Media Arts & Coding and Careers; while all our Grade 9s take Careers & Money Smarts. Grade 9s have five other requested courses, and the grade 8s take eight others ranging from art, outdoor education, shop, music, foods, leadership to drama.

Our PE program continues to be year-long including time spent on Health topics for about 20% of the time.

As for Athletics, there will be a selection of sports for students to play. Stay tuned for the Fall season and try-out times. Volleyball season is fast-approaching, along with Cross-Country running.

The school day starts @ 8:45am and dismissal is 3:00pm. Our weekly block schedule is 5 blocks daily with 3 blocks and a 10-minute break in the morning and 2 blocks in the afternoon.

• Each block is 63 minutes.

• We have a block A to G schedule that rotates over Days 1 to 7 before repeating. For instance, day 1 is A, B, C, D, E; day 2 is F, G, A, B, C, etc.

• Lunch Break is from 12:10 to 12:44pm followed by 5 minutes to get to class. Afternoon classes start @ 12:49pm.

Communication is a priority!

We continue to use FreshGrade to regularly inform and report on student learning/progress between parents, students and teachers. Stay tuned for more details and invitations from teachers by email.

Soon, our automatic call-out system will be calling and emailing parents & guardians regarding students who are absent from classes on the same day of the call. Students who have excused absences will not receive these calls. Please note these auto-calls and emails will start by 5:00pm and will be sent to the parents/guardians who are listed as the 1st contact person in our database. Feel free to contact our Office to confirm or change contact information.

School Photos are scheduled for Monday, October 1st. School photo/order information will come home soon.
