This week, it has been delightful to welcome Reception families, new intake Nursery and Reception families, and visitors from other schools to Greenfields (however COVID-19 guidance of course made this different from the usual arrangements). I am sure you will agree that one of the things that we have all missed most of all over the last year has been the many, many opportunities Greenfields families have to spend time alongside their children in class, celebrating in assembly, enjoying a Book and Biscuit session, and learning more about how we all learn at Greenfields in a themed curriculum morning. I am hopeful that all of these will return in the Autumn term (fingers crossed!).
This year our Sports Day arrangements will take place in the year group bubbles. Teachers will be arranging the sports activities to take place during their PE lessons and will be run as inter-house competitions so that we can announce the overall Sports House Cup winners.
Please keep your eyes peeled for an invitation to Greenfields' Annual Singing Safari. This is our most popular singing event, and this year it will be slightly reduced, as classes will be singing at separate times and on separate days to reduce the number of people on site and to allow for social distancing. Further details to follow via MCAS/email this week. Nonetheless, I am sure it will be an enjoyable event where our class choirs will be able to showcase why we are considered to be one of the leading Singing Schools in our Trust.
Have a lovely weekend.
Greenfields Summer Camp
Reading Under the Trees
You may be aware that in the pre-pandemic times, Greenfields hosts a 'Book and Biscuit' session every Thursday morning before class starts. It enables our children and their parents to sit and enjoy a biscuit whilst reading to each other. The current pandemic situation does not allow for this indoors, therefore in true Greenfields style, Miss Wood and Miss Byrne have invited all our Reception Class Parents to read under the trees instead with their child. Both the children and their parents loved it and Greenfields look forward to being able to host Book and Biscuit sessions in the new academic year, when restrictions allow.
Recycling in Reception
This week in Reception the children have enjoyed exploring a recycling centre. They have been working together to name and categorise the different items, explaining what they know and describing them.
Forest School Fun
This week in Forest School Club, Year Three made some beautiful prints using all of the amazing colours they found on plants from the playground. They cut up pieces of material, picked the most beautiful coloured plants they could find and pressed them between the material. It was really hard work putting lots of weight on to the rolling pin to roll the flowers.
Year One Trip
Year One had a fantastic trip to Wicksteed Park! They explored different animal habitats in the forest and had lots of fun in the park and grounds. The rain stayed away so that the children could have ice creams. It was great to be able to get out and about again, and make special memories together.

Home School Agreement
As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.
Class Code and Google Link
Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
