The Hero Herald Week of March 8, 2021

Duff Elementary . . . No Ordinary Family

Monday, March 8th in an Asynchronous day all students will complete assignments in canvas/seesaw and attendance will be taken.

This week is going to be busy here at Duff as we celebrate Texas Public School Week. We will have a Facebook Live kick-off for Duff Open House on Thursday, March 11th @ 5:00 pm. Students and teachers have worked hard to pivot and adapt in order to show you many things you have not been able to see in the classroom.

Our Wonderful Duff PTA will be hosting the Annual Duff Silent Auction and you do not want to miss out on these wonderful items and experiences! The bidding will begin on Tuesday, March 9th.

Reading Under the Stars

Duff PTA is hosting the Annual Reading Under The Stars remotely this year. So grab a blanket and sit in your yard and enjoy reading Nerdy Birdy! Each family will receive a goody bag with a copy of the book, popcorn and fun activities. Virtual learners will drive through the circle drive at Duff on Monday, March 8th from 8:30 - 11:00 or 1:00 - 3:00 to get your book and goody bag. Face-to-face learners will receive their book and bag of goodies at school on Tuesday, March 9th. Families can complete the google form in the goody bag for a chance to win one of the AMAZING READING BASKETS!

we will continue with safety protocols

Dr. Cavazos has sent this important message: "Following announcements from Governor Abbott and County Judge Glen Whitley, the district has decided that our plan moving forward is the plan we've had in place since the beginning of the school year. That means all students in grades 1-12 and all staff members will still be required to wear a mask when they are on campus or at school-related events on Arlington ISD campuses. All other safety protocols – including hand sanitizing and social distancing – will remain in place as well. We also will continue with the learning models we currently have."

Picture day is march 25th

Virtual learners will receive a link via Class Dojo to sign up for a time to come to campus to have your picture made. We will practice all safety protocols to make this a safe event.

COVID Safety reminders

  • Please complete the Wellness Survey each morning before bringing your child to school. https://www.aisd.net/duff-elementary/
  • If your child is quarantined due to an extracurricular activity please call the school (682.867.2000) and let us know your student will be virtual for the quarantine time.

we need your help

Your help is needed in the front circle drive to help with a safety concern. We must let busses access the inside lane of the circle drive to load and unload students. Please allow school busses to have priority access to enter the drive. We are making every effort to efficiently get students on and off busses to keep the flow in the driveway running smoothly. In addition, please do not drive down the center of the circle drive. We appreciate you waiting patiently for the cars in front of you to move through the line. If you walk up to meet your child, please use the sidewalk and please do not walk through the driveways. Your adherence to these protocols will help keep safety a priority.

Important reminders

  • Please complete the wellness survey each day before your child arrives at school. https://www.aisd.net/duff-elementary/
  • If you arrive to drop your student off in the circle drive or back parking lot and the doors are closed, students will need to enter the front door and have the temperature taken when they enter.
  • Have your child ready to exit the car quickly with their backpack, water bottle, and mask each morning.

Attendance matters

  • Virtual Learners: Attending daily Zooms and completing required work is the best way to experience the online learning environment and is crucial to make adequate progress. In order to be counted present, you must attend Zoom(s) and/or complete all daily work.
  • Face-to-Face Learners: We have been thankful to have 300+ face-to-face learners each day. When students need to miss school due to illness, quarantine, or appointments, they may choose to attend class via Zoom and/or complete required work in Canvas/Seesaw and be counted present.
  • Administration will reach out after 3 unexcused absences to discuss a plan to improve attendance. When a student has 5 unexcused absences, the truancy officer is notified.
  • Parents will complete a Change for Instructional Setting Request form when students are required to be quarantined. (please see link below)
  • We look forward to the day when we have 100% of our students as face-to-face learners where we can give them our very best and know they are well prepared.
  • The student code of conduct book discusses the Texas Attendance Law in more detail. https://www.aisd.net/district/departments/administration/student-behavioral-support-systems/
