OMAHA ATHLETICS REWIND NOV. 28 - DEC. 4, 2016

HOCKEY

The Omaha hockey team earned a tie and a win at Wisconsin last weekend. On Friday, Evan Weninger made a career high 47 saves in a 3-3 tie. Teemu Pulkkinen, Tristan Keck and Fredrik Olofsson all scored for the Mavericks.

On Saturday, Austin Ortega notched his first career hat trick and Jake Randolph added two goals as the Mavericks beat the Badgers, 7-4. Tyler Vesel had three assists, and Kris Oldham made 40 saves as the Mavericks improved to 6-0-2 away from home this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Omaha men's basketball team went 2-0 on the road last week, opening with an 83-73 win Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton. Tre'Shawn Thurman recorded his second straight double-double -- and his third of the season -- with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Tra-Deon Hollins added a game-high and season-best 20 points with six boards, four assists and four steals.

On Saturday, the Mavericks upended Iowa 98-89 for their first win over a Power 5 school in the modern era and the first triumph over a Big Ten team in program history. Zach Jackson scored a career-high 21 points with a career-high-tying eight rebounds, three assists and a steal. Hollins registered his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 11 assists, adding five boards, two steals and a block. Thurman tallied 17 points, a team-high nine rebounds and three steals, while Mitch Hahn had another 15 points.

Tre'Shawn Thurman was named Summit League Player of the Week Monday after averaging 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last week.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Omaha women’s basketball team defeated Lincoln University Thursday night, 98-49. Ellie Brecht scored a career-high 22 points. Remy Davenport had 11 points and six assists, and Jay Bridgeman chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.

On Sunday afternoon, Omaha dropped a 70-57 decision to Kansas State at Baxter Arena. Mikaela Shaw scored a team-leading 18 points and added five rebounds and two assists. Davenport had 15 points and four assists. Amber Vidal added eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

SWIMMING & DIVING

The Omaha swimming & diving team hosted its annual Mutual of Omaha Invite last weekend, finishing second with 721 points. Diver Andrea Brosnahan qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet, winning the 1-meter event with a freshman-record score of 271.55 to become the first Maverick in the Division I era to earn an NCAA postseason berth. Morgan Stepp swam to a school record in the 500 free, winning with a time of 4:58.92. Annika Clinton also tallied a win in the 3-meter diving event, notching a season-best six-dive score of 262.30.

Andrea Brosnahan achieved an NCAA cut in the 1-meter dive on Friday, qualifying for the NCAA Zones to be held this March.
