Acrylic Painting
Catherine is an abstract artist who works with acrylic and mixed media. Painting abstract gives her a sense of liberty. She also likes to evoke mystery and intrigue in her paintings and love when the viewer finds her or his own way into the painting and sees what she or he wants to see. Travelling, hiking and nature are her three primary sources of energy and provide the inspiration and drive to create the abstract work that she loves to do. Her passion to create abstract paintings is the way she has found to share her inner sense of the world.
My passion is to create abstract paintings. Some of my work draws inspiration from nature, while still maintaining an abstract lens. I like to use strong colours. I paint intuitively, freely, full of gusto. When I am in front of my canvas, my emotions guide me into the painting.
I paint mostly abstract, although some of my paintings shows flowers or landscapes due to my attraction to nature. Generally my colours are vibrant and joyful.
As I launch into a painting, I often find it chaotic. I start making lots of marks. Then, I start veiling and calming it down. I let myself be guided by the marks that I do, responding with the colours that I feel. It is a conversation between my work and I. Sometimes it takes weeks until my paintings feel finished, sometimes only hours. I usually work on different canvases at once. Each painting is telling me something for the others. Painting abstract gives me a great sense of liberty. I like to evoke mystery and intrigue in my paintings. It is important to me that the viewer finds their own way into the painting.
