Kansas-Nebraska Act - was an act that allowed Kansas and Nebraska territory weather to free slaves or not.

Dred Scott decision - where you are not citizens and therefore you can't sue in federal court,

Uncle Tom's Cabin is a novel that was famous.

Secede - formally withdraw

Unionist - people who wanted to stay in the union and workout differences over slavery.

Confederate States of America - or the Confederacy.

Sovereignty - or supremacy

Some states still held slaves sadly.

The people also wanted to restrict freed people.
