LIBRARY BOOKS

Parents: Many students have been borrowing our Library books - even if it is not their Library rotation. Library books can be returned at ANY TIME to either the Main Office, or your child can drop them off at the Library.

New books can also be requested at any time using the form in their Library Google Classroom. I will either hand deliver or email the virtual students when their book requests are ready for pick-up. I try to do delivery/pickups every other week.

Happy Reading,

Mrs. Shire

News From The Classroom!

Kindergarten

Happy March!

Mrs. Ward's Dragonflies have completed their Neighborhood Projects and what an incredible job everyone did on this work! Congratulations!

Also, please remember to continue your practice with your sight words. Reading practice is more successful when you can read these words on "sight".

Remember to charge your Chromebook each night so you will be prepared for the next school day.

First Grade!

We are loving Read Across America Week! So many stories... not enough time! Keep reading!

In addition to reading, practice basic facts. Without homework this year, it's important that your child reads and practices basic facts every day. Set aside 15 to 20 minutes each day after school hours for some Reading and Math practice.

On a separate note, we are well past the halfway point. At this time of year, first graders should be able to tie shoes. With social distancing, it's super important plus it's a life skill that your child needs to be able to do. If your child does not know how to do this yet, please practice every night. There are some awesome online tutorials that offer some cool tips and tricks that might help.

This is also a good time to check on your supplies at home. Sometimes a refresher is needed. Please make sure your child has pencils, crayons, a dry erase board and marker. Thank you for all you do!

Third Grade

This week we reviewed subtraction strategies: the expand-and-trade strategy and the trade-first strategy. Please practice subtracting 3-digit numbers by 3-digit numbers where "borrowing" is needed. We also took inventory of the multiplication facts we know and ALL of the multiplication strategies we have learned so far: repeated addition, make groups, skip count, make an array, the turn-around rule, helper facts, add/subtract a group, square facts, doubling and the break-apart strategy. We are at the point of the year where we should be memorizing and internalizing our multiplication facts. The strategies are there if we encounter an unknown fact.

Fourth Grade

Many thanks for helping your child be prepared on the days they come into school. It is so important they bring ALL the materials they need when they are in school on their Hybrid days.

Wow- we've reached the halfway point in Everyday Math. The children tested on Unit 4 last week along with taking the cumulative test. You can access your child's Math tests/scores through their Google Classrooms. We've moved on to our second Math book (Student Journal - Volume #2). We've started Unit 5, which you will find focuses heavily on fractions. Feel free to use the Family Letter in the Home Links book to find ways to incorporate Math into your everyday lives.

In science, we've completed our first investigation on circuits and have moved onto our second investigation on magnets. We will be testing by mid to late next week. Be on the lookout for information from your child's teacher.
