REASON FOR FOUNDING

William Penn wanted freedom for the Quakers and many more people. Quakers, Jews, Irish, Catholics, Free Africans, Scottish, and Germans moved here. The middle colonies were also founded to escape religious persecution in England.

GEOGRAPHY

The middle colonies had rich soil. It was good for farming crops such a wheat, corn, rye, Hemp, and flax. The summers were hot and moist, and there was mild winters. There was timber, furs, and coals. The middle colonies were called the bread basket colonies because of their fertile soil, and they were ideal for farming.

ECONOMY

People made a living by being farmers, miners, lumbermen, sailors, trappers, merchants, and by trading.

NEW NETHERLANDS' CRAZY PATH

New Netherlands was first owned by the Dutch, but then the English came to take it over. New Netherlands didn't want to fight, but their leader did. Their leader left, and the English came. Since the Dutch didn't want to fight, they gave the English the colony.
