Shout out to our Learning Forward Future Ready Team (iPad Team Leaders)! In addition to trainings, afternoon meetings, and quick fixes of colleague and student iPads, our team leaders and a few other teachers in the building are also working with a KU professor in sharing knowledge, planning for future PD recommendations, and allowing observations of their craft at work. Way to go team!
Staff Movement for the 18-19 School Year
It's important in times of transition to communicate as much as possible. Due to budget reductions, we had to absorb 1.1 FTE at South for next year. Due to next year's 7th grade small grade level size, it was necessary we reduce the 4 ELA teachers to 3 ELA teachers, and shift a teacher to 6th grade.
The following changes are in motion for next year. Those directly affected, along with all 7th grade ELA teachers are aware of these changes made:
Kelly Hart-Navigator ELA teacher only, no GS
Tara Zelvy-Will be moving to 6th grade ELA-Titan Team
Dave Olson-Will teach ELA on both Navigator and Explorer Teams and take a section of Guided Studies for each team
Carol McFall-Explorer ELA teacher only, no GS
Anna Busby will be moving into Beth Weishaar's room and will join the Navigator team
Gentle reminder about classroom resources (examples: novels purchased by school building funds). District wide reminder out that even if novel or book sets were purchased with building funds, they are district resources and need to be checked in and out through the Librarian. Ellen Willets is available for questions in addition to administration. Thank you!
End of Year Checkout
End of year checkout forms: If you are retiring, resigning, or switching content areas, there will be a form sent out from Ellen Willets to ensure your resources (books, materials, technology equipment) will be checked back in and/or moved with you. This should come out end of next week.
Building End of Year Checkout forms will come from Jolene regarding returning staff checking out ONLY for the summer.
iPad Check In
All student iPads will be checked in before the end of the school year. Jennifer Scotten and Anna Gordon will be working with grade levels to schedule a day no later than May 19th for student check in. Stay tuned for instructions from Ms. Scotten so we can make this as smooth a process as possible.
If Students Share Concerns...How to Follow Up?
After meeting with several of our student groups (S4EE, LGQBT+) along with hearing student reports at the high school level, schools are working harder to follow up and document student concerns that may not come directly to them. We know that sometimes students often "vent" to teachers and paras rather than admin or counselors. When this happens, we encourage staff to ask students what they would like to see done. Options include: teacher report on a student's behalf, student reporting of issue on website or app, to an admin or counselor in person, or a teacher referral to the office on behalf of the offensive party. Thank you for working as advocates for our kids!
Reminder! BLT and Ci3T Teams Sign Up in MLP!
If you are a BLT or Ci3T building leader, don't forget to sign up in MLP for the June 5th Ci3T and School Improvement Plan Workshop. This is a paid event and excellent work opportunity with Dr. Jones and Mr. Stoltenberg to plan for next year!
Wednesday Collaboration this Week!
BLT and Admin had May 3rd reserved for anything new that came our way! Since the day has not been scheduled to date with new meetings or activities, let's use this Wednesday date as an OPEN Collaboration afternoon! Similar to last year's open collaboration times, staff can collaborate with those of their choosing on topics of their choice. We trust our professionals to use the time as they need to! Thank you!
Heading into May...it's the Home Stretch!!
