Brief Overview of Marco Polo's Life:
Answering the Question: In what ways did Marco Polo effect the west’s trading with China?
Marco Polo was born in Venice in 1254
Marco's father and uncle were merchants. They left when he was young to travel to China, coming back when Marco was a teenager. On there second trip to China they brought him with them.
Unlike others of there time they traveled across land to get to China from Europe. This helped to create what we call the silk road today.
The current ruler of China was Kublai Khan.
Marco, his father, and his uncle had brought with them gifts to give the Kublai Khan.
Macro became a Chinese governor before returning to Europe. We know his story because, while traveling back from China, he was imprisoned and told his cellmate everything. The man then wrote it down and the book ended up being a great success.
