Welcome to Kids' Church The First United Methodist Church of LaGrange

We Are followers of jesus

Sunday, June 6

Welcome to our interactive family worship service. Below are videos, music, and activities that you can do together. Follow the outline and click on the links. We have the opportunity to embrace sharing faith together in a new way. Parents: this can be a fun and easy way to connect and share with your children as we grow in faith together.

LET'S TALK

We’re spending a few months finding out the answer to this question: Who does God say I am? Today you’ll discover that we are followers of Jesus. Jesus invites everyone to follow him! In the Bible, that included some fishermen.

Have you ever gone fishing? What is your favorite type of fish? Why?

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE

God made a lot of different kinds of fish! God also made a lot of different people, and He invites all those people to follow Him! When we are followers of Jesus, we can invite others to follow Him, too! Let’s find out about some of the first people who followed Jesus in the Bible. The Bible is God’s true story of love for us. It’s full of reasons to follow Jesus!

Psalm 139:1-4

PRAISE AND WORSHIP

OUR LESSON

When Jesus first started to heal people, crowds followed him. In fact, he had so many people following him that he nearly got pushed into the water!

Why do you think so many people followed Jesus?

The crowds were definitely interested in Jesus’ preaching, and they were followers of Jesus. We are followers of Jesus when we listen to him. But following Jesus isn’t about going along with what the crowd is doing; following Jesus is about looking to him, no matter what everyone else is doing. That’s kind of like what happened next.

Why do you think so many people followed Jesus?

Remember those fishermen whose boat Jesus borrowed? They hadn’t caught any fish all night. It seemed impossible. The fishermen were followers of Jesus, because they did what He said they could do what they thought was impossible. We are followers of Jesus when we do what He says.

TALK ABOUT IT

The fishermen made all their money from catching fish. They could’ve made a lot of money from the big haul Jesus helped them catch! But they realized that there was something more valuable than a big catch of fish—the guy who made the miracle happen. It’s like if someone gave you a bunch of money. You could keep that money, or you could stay close to the person who gave you the money, knowing they’re the real source of wealth.

That’s what the fishermen did. Jesus didn’t make them rich with money, but he gave them a rich kind of life, something meaningful.

We are followers of Jesus. That means we listen to Him like the crowd did, and we do what He says like the fishermen did. But it means more than that. It means we seek out time with Him above everything else. That’s what the fishermen did when they left everything to follow Jesus. They wanted a friendship with Him, not a one-time catch of fish.

What’s one thing that can take some of your focus off Jesus?

Now talk silently to Jesus about what just came to mind. Ask Him to help you follow Him more than the thing you thought of. Commit to being a follower of Jesus.

PRAY

Jesus, thank you for inviting us to follow you. We want to be your followers and make sure anything else is less important than you. Shine your light in me, through me, over me. Help me to make a difference in this world, for your glory and purposes. I love you Lord. Amen!

Monthly bible Memory verse

"I have told you all these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take hear! I have overcome the world." John 16:33
