5/13/2020 Email from Dr. Haugen

Dear Parents of Seniors:

Our overwhelming response from parents showed that Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6 are the best dates for our families to experience the Diploma Walk/Personalized Graduation Experience.

To schedule an appointment for either day, we need every family to fill out this form. We ask that you complete this form by 6:00pm, Monday, May 18, 2020. CLICK HERE: RHS DIPLOMA WALK TIME PREFERENCE. Please complete one form per family.

DEADLINE is MONDAY, MAY 18 by 6:00 pm. After we receive every senior's session preferences, we will communicate your assigned Diploma Walk time the following week. Thank you!

Please note: You MUST complete this form to be assigned an appointment. Please spread the word to friends who have seniors to make sure they see this email!

5/12/2020 Email from Dr. Haugen

Hi, Seniors!

Your Cap and Gown pick up is Monday, May 18 from 11:00-1:00 or Tuesday, May 19 from 4:00-6:00 pm. You can come either day. If you still have a Chromebook, uniform, library books, or any other items to be dropped off, you can do that at the same time. Many of your teachers will be there to say good-bye!

There will be a photographer there on Tuesday, May 19 from 4:00-6:00 if you do not have a senior picture to submit for the virtual graduation. This will be a FREE service. You would have to come on TUESDAY for this.

Here's what will happen when you come on Monday or Tuesday:

1. You will drive up to the front of the building and give your name. We will bring you:

- Your cap and gown, stole, honor cords, and a graduation medal.

- Your legacy tile with markers, along with instructions.

- Your free senior t-shirt

- Instructions for the Diploma Walk/Personalized Graduation on June 4 and 5

- A ribbon to put on a tree at your home or near your home if you'd like

2. If you have things to drop off, we will let you know where to do that.

Let me know if you have questions!

5/6/2020 Email from Dr. Haugen

Redmond High School Class of 2020 and families -

It is with sadness and a heavy heart that I write this email. Superintendent McIntosh just sent communication regarding this year’s modified graduation events to include a virtual graduation. The words “virtual graduation” are far from what we envisioned for the class of 2020 and we are disappointed we cannot all meet together and preserve our traditional in-person graduation ceremony. Please know that we worked extremely hard to come up with different scenarios to make this work, only to be told “no” each time because of the criteria outlined by the Governor and the Oregon Department of Education. We cannot have more than 24 people together, which makes traditional graduation impossible at this time. Just writing that tugs at my heart, and I know the disappointment will run deep with our students, our families and our staff, just as it does for me.

However, PLEASE KEEP READING! We are working to ensure our seniors do get opportunities to be publicly and privately recognized for their 13 years of educational learning and dedication. We have several things planned in the next two months to honor every one of our seniors. These include:

Cap & Gown Pickup with teachers and staff present

Tower Theater Marquee picture opportunity in Bend

Diploma Walk: A Personal Graduation Experience

Formal Graduation Ceremony aired on COTV

One year Reunion for Class of 2020 in May/June of 2021

We hope these planned events will help you feel honored and loved. We will need to follow the Governor’s and ODE’s restrictions for all “in-person” events (no more than 24 people gathered together at one time and a minimum of 6 feet of social distancing between each person). We want to be clear that we want EVERY senior to attend each and every event. That said, we also know that some may not feel comfortable attending one of more of these events and we respect your decision. Details for these events are as follows:

May 18 and May 19 - RHS Cap/Gown/Cord pick up

May 18: 11:00-1:00

May 19: 4:00-6:00

Seniors will drive through the front drive to receive their cap and gowns, stoles, cords and medals.

A photographer will be available to take a free photo to include in the virtual graduation ceremony. This is optional, but for any senior who does not have a senior photo yet, we will use this for the virtual ceremony.

Seniors will also receive a ceramic tile and sharpie markers for decorating for the first ever Legacy Wall at Redmond High School.

Free Class of 2020 T-Shirts will be distributed.

A gift for the graduating class will be included.

Teachers and staff will be there, lined up outside at a safe distance to say goodbyes and honor our seniors.

Details will follow in a separate email, so please stay tuned for instructions on how this will work.

Chromebooks and any other materials (like calculators, etc., will be collected at this time.)

May 30 - Tower Theater Marquee Photo

The Tower Theater, located in downtown Bend, will post a special message specifically for graduates of Redmond High School on Friday, May 29. We encourage you to safely travel to the theater and get a picture with the special RHS Marquee in the background. Again, please practice safe social distancing.

UPDATED: June 5 & 6 - Diploma Walk: A Personal Graduation Experience!

The graduate and up to four family members are invited to come to Redmond High School for a personal graduation experience.

We will send an appointment sheet (google form) for your family to sign-up for a 3 hour time block. The week before, your family will be assigned a 10 minute appointment between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm on either day.

Each student (in their cap and gown, cords, stoles and medals) will proceed to our theater to get their diploma cover and picture while family members take photos.

A photographer will take photos as well for a video montage of the entire senior class to be shared later.

A special photo area will be decorated for photo opportunities in the student Commons for your family afterwards.

Students will then pick up their diploma and depart the building.

Cap & Gown pictures will also be made available to download for free by June 30.

June 12 & 13 - Virtual graduations - COTV

The Virtual Graduation Ceremony will be aired on COTV on Friday, June 12th at 6:00pm.

The video will be available afterwards for free viewing at our families’ convenience.

One year Reunion for Class of 2020 in May/June of 2021

Students will be invited to plan a special event that brings everyone together next spring.

Clearly, this is a lot of information to process, and your disappointment might be overshadowing the many events we have planned. Please take some time to process the news, and know that we are doing everything in our power to make this as special as possible. Then please launch into the graduation season with a positive outlook to celebrate our awesome seniors!

Thank you for your support during this uncertain time; we remain dedicated to the class of 2020, who is making history! Please continue to check your emails for important communication about all of these events.

Hope to see you at all of these events so we can celebrate YOU!

Dr. Haugan

PERSONAL ITEM PICK-UP: Everyone: Next week Wednesday (May 6th), from 3:00-5:00pm, and next week Thursday (May 7th), from 10:00am-12:00pm, we will allow students to pick up any personal belongings that were left behind in PE lockers, hallway lockers, classrooms, etc. We will also be collecting ROTC uniforms and ATHLETIC uniforms from ALL students.

Staff members are packing lockers and labeling bags for students to make the process easier. Students and families will not be allowed to be in the building, so we will follow this process:

1. Please come to the front drive near the front doors of the building. Someone will take your name and will locate your belongings. They will bring your items to your vehicle.

2. If you have an ROTC uniform, you will need to see Mr. Seal and/or Mr. Trammel outside and return your uniform.

3. If you have an ATHLETIC uniform, you will need to see a staff member to drop it off outside in a bin as well.

There will be staff members there to assist you.

Seniors: We will NOT be collecting any senior Chromebooks at this time. Please wait until we distribute caps/gowns in the near future to do this.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

We have to go through each transcript and make sure the classes are accurate, the incompletes finished, etc. These will be mailed to the physical address we have on file.

GRADUATION AND OTHER EVENTS: We are still holding on to hope that this can happen. If it can't happen on June 5th, we will make it happen later.
