It is our hope that you find it informative outlining BASD student and staff achievements, BASD opportunities, and area events taking place.

The BASD e-News is divided into sections below. The sections include News and Events from BASD Media, the BASD Blog, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School's Sign of the Week, the Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District, BASD MiniThon, BAVTS, Colleges/Community Colleges/Universities, ArtsQuest, Allentown Art Museum, Hanover Township Community Center, Lehigh Valley Business Group, Nutritional Information, BASD Job Opportunities, Events in the Area, and the Bethlehem Public Library.

BASD Launches New Tip Line - Safe2Say Something

Pennsylvania recently implemented a statewide, 24/7, tip line for reporting school-related threats. This new tip line is called Safe2Say Something and is focused on providing middle school and high school students across our state a tool for anonymously reporting threats. Any tips reported to Safe2Say Something involving our district will be shared with our school safety team and local law enforcement for immediate action. Over the next week, all middle school and high school students will receive information at school about the Safe2Say Something program including information on how to text, call or email to report a concern. Details regarding Safe2Say Something are posted on the district's website as parents and community members statewide can also download the app and report threats. Please review the website for these details. Together, we will continue to work to keep our students safe. Thank you.

Lehigh University will host a A Focus on School Shooting: What Everyone Should Know on February 12, 2019 from 6 pm - 8 pm at the Packard Laboratory Auditorium, Room 101. This event is free to the public.

WEEKLY NUTRITION and FITNESS TIPS

BASD Health Matters Monthly #1

The Bethlehem Area School District prides itself on its health services department and the staff that supports it. Each month, we will give you some quick tips from our knowledgeable employees and partners.

.

Healthy Tips from Michelle Martucci, RD, LDN

Dietitian for Bethlehem Area School District

The ABC Tips - N:

Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast grown on sugar cane and beet molasses. It is known to have a nutty, cheesy flavor. Nutritional yeast is considered a complete protein, because it contains the nine essential amino acids that your body cannot make. In addition, it can be consumed in vegan and vegetarian diets. Vegan and vegetarian diets sometimes lack in B vitamins, which nutritional yeast is abundant in. You can even purchase a fortified version of nutritional yeast, which is packed with even more nutrients. Nutritional yeast is known to boost your immune system and promote good digestion. Try sprinkling nutritional yeast on pasta dishes, salads, soups, or popcorn.

Cops 'n' Kids Events

2019 Cops ’n’ Kids 13th Annual

Celebration of Reading . . . and the Arts and Sciences

April 27, 2019 — 11 am until 3 pm

We have started planning for our 13th annual Cops ’n’ Kids Celebration of Reading . . . and the Arts and Sciences, and we have a great deal to celebrate!

With the help of our entire community, the award-winning Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program has reached a remarkable milestone, distributing more than 940,000 free books thus far.

This will be our "March to the Millionth" event!

To celebrate this accomplishment, and the children of our community, we invite you to join us (rain or shine) for a day of food, fun, family, crafts, entertainment, laughter—and, of course, literacy.

If you are interested in having your students perform, please contact Tammy Giampapa at tgiampapa@basdschools.org for more information.

Please mark your calendars—and thank you for helping us to “connect kids and community through literacy.”
