Describe the Beast that seems to be stalking the island. Use the text as backup for your info.
The beast that has been stalking the island lives near the trees. Phil the little one believes that the beast lives in the trees. He says that it was a twisty thing going up the tree then it went away. Then Percival says that the beast comes from the water. All the littluns start to say maybe it could be a squid or something. There are many different beast that could be stalking the island but these are the main ones.
Name at least two things the boys are doing or have given up that show how they are now operating on instinct and no longer trying to follow the rules of society. Explain your answers with information from the text.
Throughout the book the boys have been through a lot. Some of them still want to get saved and not stay there like Ralph and Piggy. There are some boys that start to lose hope. When Jack is up near the castle with Ralph and all of them instead of finding the beast he's playing around with rocks. Ralph tells him to stop and that they don't have much time but then Roger said that "We've got plenty of time" so that means that he has lost hope to trying to get saved. Throughout the book many of the boys start to lose hope but this is the one that stood out the most.
Two rituals people are most familiar with are weddings and funerals. Pick an event (a wedding or a funeral). Make a list of at least 3 phrases people use at the event you picked. Using one of your phrases, explain why your phrase is helpful in the situation.
"We are gathered here today"
"In sickness and in health"
"You may now kiss the bride"
There are many different sayings that you could have at a wedding. I am only going to pick out one. The one I am going to choose is "In sickness and in health". I chose this one because it shows that no matter what you and your spouse are going to be together. It doesn't matter if your sick or having a rough day, you and her will always be together. I think that this is one of the best sayings because it shows how much you care about that one person. You don't care how they look or how they act you don't care about anything but having them beside you. No matter what you'll be there to help guide them through anything and everything.
Choose a character, either Ralph or Jack and explain the effect seeing the Beast has on the character you have chosen. Use textual information to support your answer.
In this chapter jack and Ralph are coming back from finding the beast on the mountain. I'm going to tell you jack side about the mountain. As Jack and Ralph are coming back they meet up near Piggy. When they get to him he asked if there really was a beast and Ralph and Jack said yes. But then Jack got mad at Ralph because Ralph never really went up on top of the mountain to actually see the beast he just knew that there was one from Jack and the other boys. Jack had started to talk about how the beast and again Ralph had interupted him saying there wasn't a beast so then Jack got mad because Ralph thinks he chief but jack thinks he should be chief so Jack said "Hands up," said Jack strongly, "whoever wants Ralph not to be chief?" ( Golding 127). Ralph and Jack started to fight again then Jack said"Quiet!" Shouted Jack. "You, listen. The beast is sitting up there, whatever it is" & He leaped down from the platform and ran along the beach, paying no heed to the steady fall of his tears; until he dived into the forest Ralph watched him (Golding 127). In the end of that chapter Ralph had watched Jack leave and start his own tribe.
Retell in your own words what has happened to Simon. Use textual evidence to help you create a vivid paragraph.
In this chapter Simon is leaving his happy place and ends up going up to the mountain and finding the "beast" and wanted to go down and tell everyone what he had saw. But he didn't know what all was happening down on the platform. Back on the beach Jack was cooking the meat and had invited everyone but Ralph and Piggy didn't come right away. When they did Jack told them "Take some meat" ( Golding 149 ) . As the boys stood there at had got some of his meat Jack decided to ask "Who's going to join my tribe" (Golding 150). Since he said that Ralph had gotten mad and he started to say that he was chief. Then the boys had gotten into and argument. While they were arguing the rain was coming so Jack's tribe thought that doing they're ritual would help. Mean while they are doing they're ritual "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! (Golding 152) Simon was walking out the woods to try and tell them what he had seen but it was dark and the boys were to busy screaming about the beast and Simon came out the woods so quickly they had thought that he was the beast. Simon had entered the ritual circle they boys chanted "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! Do him in!" ( Golding 152). Then the Simon tried to run away as they were beating him but he ended up get to the beach but they boys still got to him. The boys killed Simon.
In life people create groups. These groups might be at school, in sports, in extracurricular activities, and through religious organizations. Explain what needs groups fill for people. Explain both the positive and negative aspects of being part of a group. You may relate this to our novel, or you may make it a person reflection of your own experience.
In life people need groups to get through many things. I am going to tell you the positive and negative parts of being in a group. The positives would have to be helping one another, being a good support, and being a loving friend. Helping one another is a big things because you may never know what could be wrong with that one person and they just want friends to help them and comfort them. Being a loving friend to. Without love there is no group. Love goes with helping them also because you love them enough to help them get through what is going on. Having a group helps you get through anything and everything. But there is some negatives. Some negatives would be arguing, annoying each other, not listing. In a group some people might not agree with others so that can cause some arguments. Then that comes down to not listing. There is those few people in a group that never listen and they just get on your last nerve, which that could cause you to fight also. There are many positive and negatives of being in a group.
which is better?
“Which is better - to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?”
Using this quote, take a stand. Pick a side and explain why your decision is best on this island here at the end of Chapter 11. Don’t forget to use textual evidence to support your answer.
In my opinion I'd have to chose to have rules and agree. Without agreeing then you can't have rules. You need rules to get through life and be safe. I f you didn't have rules you'd be a trouble maker and could hurt people because you don't know any better. Yes to hunt and kill would be a good choice too but if you have the rules and you are agreeing to them then you can go hunt responsibly. I know that hunting is a big thing because you need food but you can't go hunting without rules. There are steps that you need to follow to make sure that everything goes smoothly. In chapter 11 since Jack didn't follow Ralph's rules and made up his own tribe because he was so mad he had got piggy killed. " Then the monstrous red thing bounded across the neck and he flung himself flat while the tribe shrieked. The rock strucked Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist" (Golding 181). But also the conch had been broken and that was what Ralph was using to get everyone together and explain the rules. Over all I think that it is better to have rules and agree than to hunt ad kill.
