Mukilteo Elementary Falcon Spirit May 10, 2019

SBA TESTING

During this testing time, you can support your children by sending them to school well rested and by feeding them breakfast. Our wonderful Nutrition Services will be providing free breakfast for all students taking the assessments from May 13 - May 31. Breakfast begins at 8:40am. In addition to breakfast, please also send your child with a healthy snack. You may also reassure them that they do not need to be nervous or concerned. All we ask is that they take their time and do their best. We know this is one snap shot of where they are as learners, but we want the most accurate snap shot we can get. It is very helpful if parents have their children in school, unless they are ill. We do our best to make up tests, but the efforts of parents who plan around the testing window are greatly appreciated.

Class Placements for Next Year

Coming up in May, the Mukilteo Elementary staff will be looking at tentative class assignments for students entering Grades 1-5 next year. Due to withdrawals and additional registrations that occur during the summer, classroom rosters are not completed until the end of summer. We will notify you of your child’s tentative assignment for the 2019-2020 school year in late August. All student assignments are tentative until a determination is made after the 4th day of school in September. At that time, adjustments may be made based on final enrollment and staffing numbers.

During May & June, our teaching staff will be cooperatively working to place students in classes for the 2019-2020 school year. Classroom teachers, specialists, learning support teachers, psychologist/counselors, and myself are all part of the placement process. We work to create the best community of learning for each classroom by looking at creating an equitable distribution of students of different abilities, talents, personalities and approaches to learning. Student placement is a complex task and the list below gives you a sampling of some of the things that are taken into consideration by staff through the placement process:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Behavior & Social Skills
  • Learning Styles
  • Class Size
  • Relationships

Due to the variables and complexity of placements, we are asking parents to trust our process and allow our teachers to make placement decisions. While parent requests for particular teachers are not accepted, if you desire to provide input about your child’s learning needs and learning style, please obtain a Parental Input Form from the office (or click on the link below), complete it and return it to school by Friday, May, 17th at 4:00 p.m.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE FAMILIES THAT DONATED TO THE ME PTSA TEACHER APPRECIATION LUNCH. YOUR GENEROSITY IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Kindergarten 2019-2020 Families, you are invited to our Kindergarten Orientation on May 16, 2019, 6:30pm.

Girls on the Run Community Project

Our wonderful M.E. Girls on the Run Team is doing a community project for three different local animal shelters. We are collecting the following items, which will be made into durable animal toys: old towels, blue jeans, fabric, string, yarn, tassels, feathers, bells, tennis balls, and peanut butter! If you have any of these items, please feel free to drop them off at Ms. Wise’s classroom #108 in the next week. We are also collecting dog and cat food! (Bagged or canned-any brand). Thanks so much.

Book Exchange Donations

Happy Spring ME Families!

While spring cleaning this season, if you find any books you no longer want or need, please consider donating them to Mukilteo Elementary’s book exchange that will be occurring at the end of the school year. Please make sure books are in good condition, are kid-appropriate and approved! Books can be dropped off in the library in a bag or box labeled “book exchange donation.” Thanks for your consideration!

Moving or Transferring Schools?

With the end of the year fast approaching, Mukilteo Elementary would like to know if you will NOT be returning to our school for the 2019 – 2020 school year.

If you have a 5th grade student, they will be automatically enrolled into their next school. If you have a student currently attending ME and they WILL be returning next year, you do not need to do anything.

If you will be moving this summer, or your student will not be returning to ME for another reason, please fill out form below.

THANK YOU!

Spring is here and it is time to remind students and parents of appropriate school attire. It is our goal to maintain an academic atmosphere at all times. Please dress your child in clothing that is safe and appropriate for school.

The following rules apply:

  • Shorts, skorts, and skirts must reach the end of the fingertip when arms are extended down at their side.
  • No spaghetti strap shirts or shirts that expose the tummy. Sleeveless shirts are ok.
  • Tennis shoes for PE. Shoes need to be appropriate for playing safely on the playground, therefore no flip flops.

If a student forgets or wears inappropriate clothing, that student will be asked to go to the office, change clothes (as available), or call home to notify the parents to request clothing if needed.

Be SMART After the PTSA Meeting

All parents, caregivers, and staff from Mukilteo School District are invited to a presentation of Be SMART for Kids on May 20th at 7pm, immediately following our regular PTSA meeting.

Please RSVP here and tell your friends!

This valuable presentation is approved by the National and Washington State PTA. Join us to find out what you can do to reduce the unintentional shootings and suicides that occur when children get ahold of an unsecured firearm.

It is time to get ready for baseball season with some fun reading! Our school is participating in a month-long program presented by the Everett AquaSox & Sound Transit that will motivate your child to become a Home Run Reader. Each student will have weekly reading goals and will receive prizes as they reach their goals. The students will be reading “around the bases” in order to reach home plate and will receive prizes and entries for “free book” drawings for completing each base along the way. The final prize will be a free ticket to our school’s reading night at an Everett AquaSox baseball game in June! We will be celebrating the end of the school year in style with a great night at the ballpark.

It's almost time for our Scholastic Book Fair! We need lots of volunteers to make this event a success! If you are able, please sign up for more than one spot!

If you are unable to work for a full time slot, please sign up in the one that you can work in and list the time that you are able to help. THANK YOU for your support of this great ME event. It's going to be DINO-MITE!

Get excited for ME's annual Carnival on Thursday, May 30th! This very popular event is back with old favorites and new surprises. Check your child’s Friday folder for an order form for wristbands and tickets. Avoid lines the day of and enjoy savings by purchasing in advance!
