The Amsterdam Canals

Anne wrote a about the canals in her diary. The main ones were the Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht, which were built great for the time they were made in.

The Secret Annex

The Secret Annex was the hiding place of the franks. They did not want to get caught so they hid here. The front was for Otto Franks spice business. The back was where the Franks hid

Nuremberg Laws

1. Marriage between Jews and subjects of the state of German or related blood are forbidden. Marriages nevertheless concluded are invalid, even if concluded abroad to circumvent the law. Annulment proceedings can be initiated only by the State Prosecutor.

2. Extramarital intercourse between Jews and subjects of the state of German or related blood is forbidden.

3. Jews may not employ in their household female subjects of the state of German o related blood who are under 45 years old.

4. Jews are forbidden to fly the Reich or National flag or to display the Reich colors. They are, on the other hand, permitted to display the Jewish colors. The exercise of this right is protected by the State.

5. Any person who violates the prohibition under I will be punished by a prison sentence with hard labor. A male who violates the prohibition under I will be punished with a prison sentence with or without hard labor. Any person violating the provisions under III or IV will be punished with a prison sentence of up to one year and a fine, or with one or the other of these penalties. The Reich Minister of the Interior, in coordination with the Deputy of the Führer and the Reich Minister of Justice, will issue the Legal and Administrative regulations required to implement and complete the Law. The Law takes effect on the day following promulgations except for III, which goes into force on January 1, 1936. Nuremberg, September 15, 1935 at the Reich Party Congress of Freedom.

Propaganda was media used to make people believe that something was true. These thing were usually biased, non factual opinions. These have a negative view on an enemy and positive view on the ally. They tried to convince people into thinking what they said was right and recruiting people. There are different types from humor, appeal to emotion patriotism, lies, slogans, visual symbols, and demonization. They also use figurative language, and make the reader depict the group it's aimed at badly. Demonization make the enemy look bad, and and humor make the reader laugh at the enemy. They also use love for the country and half lies or lies to make the reader believe something else. They can also use slogans that get stuck in your head.

Anne Frank

Anne Frank was the one main reason we know about in detail about the Nazis. She went into hiding at the secret Annex. She was immature at times but was a very thoughtful person. She went into hiding at 13 and came out at 15. Many people said she came a kid and left a woman. She also was in love with a boy named Peter Van Pels. Anne's relationship with her mother was not a very good one.

Otto Frank

Otto Frank born May 12, 1889 in Frankfurt. If it wasn't for Mr. Frank, none of the Frank family would have been able to hide for that long. He planned their hiding for a very long time and very efficiently. If someone did not betray they they would have stayed for a lot longer amount of time. He is the only of the Frank family to survive.

Meip Gies

Meip Gies was a vital helper to the Franks during and before their hiding. Her real name was Hermine and was Otto Franks secretary. She sent supplies to the Franks while they were in hiding. If not for Miep, Anne's diary would not be found, because she returned the diary to Otto Frank. She lived to 100 years old.

Fritz Pfeffer

Fritz Pfeffer was born on April 30, 1889, in Giessen, Germany. He was a dentist who got divorced and met a new woman who he was never able to marry because of the Nuremberg Laws. Him and Anne were constantly fighting over little thing since they shared a room. Otto often took Anne's side which mad Fritz mad. He disowned Ottos family for publishing bad thing about him. Mr. Pfeffer died of disease in a concentration camp.

Act I Summary

Act I is the prologue to the Franks' and Van Daans' circumstance, alongside Mr. Dussel. They are avoiding the Nazis inside a concealed Annex that is above Mr. Honest's business. They are covered up by a hidden bookshelf, which moves when a man needs to enter or leave the Secret Annex. There are numerous things that occur in Act I, similar to a cheat comes in while there is comotion, and occasions that must be recognized discreetly to abstain from being listened. For instance, the Jews secluded from everything spend Hanukkah in the Secret Annex, and they most sing low, and just Anne has presents for the others. While this was going on, a commotion can be heard underneath and Peter movements to kill the light, however tumbles off a stool. The Van Daans are persuaded that their cover has been blown. Act I closes when the families having been living in the Secret Annex for about 18 months.

Warsaw Ghetto

Hitler chose to devastate the Ghettos in 1942, and the Warsaw Ghetto was one of them. There were more than 400,000 hostage Jews at the Ghetto. Around 300,000 of the Jews were executed by either gas or shot at the Ghetto. Amid the uprising in any case, 300 German troopers passed and 7,000 Jewish warriors likewise passed on. This raised the spirit for the Jews, in light of the fact that there was a sudden demonstration of resistance against the Nazis.

Act II Summary

In act II Meip brings a cake to the two families. There is an argument over why Mr. Van Daan should not cut the cake because he does it so he gets more cake. Also, Anne and Peter talk often and develope a relationship and Mrs. Van Daan gets suspicious. She tried to catch Peter and Anne and make comments that are pointed at them. In Act II Mr. Van Daan is caught stealing food and the usually passive Mrs.Frank snaps. She starts going off on the Van Daans and tells them to get out. She wanted to kick them out onto the street, but does not get her way. Meanwhile they receive a call and tension builds. A little later the green police take both families away. The only survivor Otto Frank comes back after the war for Anne's diary. He says "she puts me to shame" because of her quote' "In spite of everything I still believe there is good in people."
