THEATRE DIRECTOR ms. newsum

Candice holds a B.A. in Speech Communications and Theater Arts from Dillard University and MFA in Acting from the University of Florida. In past years she has directed 'The Wizard of OZ", "Lovesick", "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory " ,"Last night of Ballyhoo" ,"Tracers", "Sweeney Todd" "Hairspray" and "Legally Blonde". She has performed all over the world in such places as St. Petersburg, Russia and toured most of Brazil. When she arrived in Los Angeles in 2008 she has made guess appearances on ER, Greek, House, BET’S “The Boot” and MTV“From G’s to Gents”. Her most recent work includes guest appearances in ABC’s“The Doctors” and schmoozing with host Bill Engvall on the hit game show ‘Lingo’.

For you, I am including the list of FAQ here:

YES, you have to do this to get a cord.

YES, you have to present on that day - we have a schedule to keep with the state.

YES, ALL the requirements have to be met.

YES, the Volunteer hours MUST be Fine Arts related. ( Theatre Performance for Elementary, Teaching children's choir; volunteering with the Band for a community service event; etc.)

NO, marching band does not count as Volunteer Hours.

NO, dance company does not count as Volunteer Hours.

NO, drama club does not count as Volunteer Hours.

YES, optional performances (i.e. Veteran's Day performance for the City of Smyrna), DO count as Volunteer Hours. In other words, it cannot have been a requirement of any kind, but it must be a strictly VOLUNTEER event.

YES, You must be enrolled in the program AS A SENIOR.

YES, you must pay $10 for the cord once you pass the capstone presentation.

YES, transcripts must be checked. This is a State Document, and we want to be sure our records and reccommendations are correct.

NO, there will not be a make-up date for presentations that students miss. Again, we have state deadlines.

INTERNATIONAL THESPIAN CORDS

In order to receive a Thespian Society Cord for graduation you must

Pay $30 Thespian dues

Participate in Drama Club as an active member

Have taken 2 or more non- musical theater Drama/Acting courses,

Performed or crewed in 2 or more after school drama performances,

Complete the Fine Arts pathway in addition to

Complete the the Diploma Seal Power point presentation.
