FACEBOOK: Dina, from Sharqiya, Egypt graduated from nursing school at the British University of Egypt in 2019 on a USAID scholarship. Dina was halfway through her year-long nursing residency at an Egyptian hospital when COVID-19 turned her world upside down. “I chose to be a nurse to help people who are suffering from pain, and now my residency year is giving me the chance to fight to achieve what I dreamed. My daily battle is not easy. It is hard to treat all the patients as suspected COVID-19 patients. It is very hard to not travel to see my family. It is very hard to wake up every day and not know what the future holds. But all of these hard circumstances are teaching me a lot and are giving me a vital role in my community.” Despite the enormous challenges and personal risks, Dina says, “These days prove to me how strong I am. My education and the leadership training through USAID’s scholarship program prepared me for this moment. I am still working with positivity, and I am still keeping my smile when I am entering the rooms and ignoring my fears. The positivity sessions in our leadership training made a big impact on me. Every day, I tell myself, ‘You are the reason making those who are suffering feel that there is someone who cares.’”Dina, your courage and positivity inspire us! Thank you to you and all your fellow health workers for sacrificing so much to serve your communities! (Click here to share)
