Congratulations, Smith Science Olympiad Team!

We are happy to report Smith MS Science Olympiad team's success in defending regional championship yesterday at 2020 Oakland Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. The tournament took place at Detroit Country Day school.

Smith Middle School was represented by 1 team in Primary and 2 in Alternate categories. We won in both categories, with the Primary team's win paving the way for our participation in the State Championship to be held at MSU in the last week of April 2020.

Destination Imagination News and Congratulations!!!

This past weekend our Troy Creative Minds Destination Imagination team competed in the regional tournament at Henry Ford II High School and took 2nd place. They have earned their way to the state tournament on March 28th in Lansing. Congratulations to the Procrastinating Platypi!

PTO Volunteers Needed!!!!

The SMITH PTO is actively recruiting for future Board Members / Committee Leaders for next year NOW, to shadow and train with current parent volunteers to make transitions super easy!

Work with Mr. Mueller and Ms. Hartenburg and other amazing parents at Smith on the PTO Board.

Commitments are generally 1 hr a month for board members and a an hour or two more depending on activity that month. Board operates as a team.

Openings for 20/21 school year President, Treasurer and Volunteer Coordinator.

* BONUS — we now offer board members front row seating at key Smith events (plays, orchestra/band, choir, graduation and more)

Smith Student Showcase

On Thursday, Mr. Eve and Mrs. Lerdahl shared information with our students about our First Annual Smith Student Showcase. This spring, Smith students will have an opportunity to share some of the hard work they have done this school year. We are hoping to have a variety of presentations at this event. Students can sign up individually or with a partner or group. We are encouraging students to share their learning from an academic class, a performance, an activity or participation in our clubs or athletic programs. The sign-up link is attached and also posted in Schoology. Please encourage your student to sign up!

Math Test-Out Information

Middle and High School students may waive a mathematics course requirement by testing out of a particular course.

The documents at (https://www.troy.k12.mi.us/departments/teaching-learning) explain the process and contain study guides for each course. Please read the first document (Testing Out Information 2020) thoroughly for the requirements for testing out.

IMPORTANT: The test out form must be completed on-line through the PowerSchool Parent/Student Portal. Submissions will be accepted between February 19 - March 20, 2020. Smith Middle School Homework Help

Smith’s Homework Help and Mentoring program will run every Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 7:40-8:10 in room 3. This is a drop-in program for students to get some extra help with their classes. There will be a teacher present, as well as student mentors who can assist students with difficult concepts, questions about homework, and organization.
