Green Team Visits Detroit Zoo

This week 30 members of the LMS Green Team visited the Detroit Zoo to kick off a year-long sustainability partnership. The Zoo staff talked with our students about their sustainability initiatives including eliminating the sale of single use water bottles in cafes and plastic bags in gift shops, implementing a solar flower to harness the energy of the sun, using permeable pavement in some parking lots to improve water flow and eliminate runoff of gasoline into animal habitats, and use of an anerobic digester to compost animal waste into useable energy to power their animal hospital. The LMS Green Team will be developing our own initiatives to be implemented throughout the year to improve the sustainability of Larson Middle School. Green Team is a club that meets during lunches and is open to all students. To join the club, use the Schoology group code BZ643-XWGC7. Members may purchase a Green Team t-shirt online via pay schools for $9.50.

Halloween After School Activity

Larson will hold its next After School Student Activity on Friday, October 26, which is one of our most popular and has a Halloween Theme. We do need 10 parent volunteers to assist with ticket sales during lunch throughout the week and on the day itself from 2:00 - 4:00 pm to assist with set up, running activities at the event and clean up. If you can help, click on the link below.

Math Counts Club

The Larson Math Counts team is starting Thursday October 25th at 6 pm. This team is for any student who is interested in problem solving, math strategies, and attending Math competitions. After several sessions students test to see if they qualify for the Larson Math Counts team in February. The team meets in Ms. McHugh’s room 709. The information has been posted on the Larson website and includes meeting dates. Please contact Ms. McHugh smchugh2@troy.k12.mi.us or Srini Kundeti at kundety@gmail.com should you have further questions.
