Should Little Kids Be Exposed To As Much Tech As They Are? By: Anthony Mendez

Could you imagine a 3 year old kid knowing his way around an ipad before he can read write, or even properly speak? Studies show that 60% of parents do not supervise their child’s technology usage and 75% of children are allowed technology in their bedrooms.

Although it may not sound like such a big deal, it is. Technology is easy and most of all FUN to use. Kids should be outside running around and learning things rather than playing flappy bird for 4-6 hours a day. As a matter of fact 3-5 year olds should only be exposed to about an hour of technology per day. As much as everyone doesn't want to hear it, this does not happen. Whether it be the tv or a mobile app kids 3-5 are typically exposed to a lot of technology usage.

Kids 3-5 should not be inactive for more than an hour at a time. This doesn't mean that they necessarily have to be outside to be doing this. They could run around the house or have playdates with friends. Maybe even better than that, possibly they could read a book! I know you could argue oh well there are books on kindles and such. But nothing can compare to a physical book. Here are alternatives to technology usage which are easy to do.

Think about the topic like this. If you have a kid and they are inside using an ipad rather than going outside and playing, they will have delayed development compared to others. Use of technology under the age of 12 years is detrimental to child development and learning. If you want to put it into perspective, think about a child that has enough potential to go to college and to do very well in school. If they don't get enough activity or TOO much activity on technology they may not live to their full potential.
