Baseball Player of the Year finalists

Caleb Dix, Sophomore, Crystal River

The sophomore right-handed hurler split time between starting and closing for the Pirates, going 3-2 with four saves and an 0.69 earned run average. In 40 2/3 innings, struck out 65 batters, while giving up 22 hits and 19 walks. Also played shortstop and settled into the cleanup spot, hitting .284 and stealing 11 bases.

Westen Kinnard, Junior, Citrus

The junior left fielder batted a robust .411 with six doubles, a triple, 15 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. Also led the Hurricanes with a .983 OPS and stole 12 bases. In five pitching appearances, went 1-0 with a save and a 1.58 ERA, striking out 10 over 13 1/3 innings.

Coy Phillips, Junior, Seven Rivers Christian

The junior first baseman hit an outstanding .462 with 34 RBI, both team highs for the Warriors. Added six doubles, three triples and four home runs, while scoring 39 runs and totaling 24 stolen bases. Posted a .611 on-base percentage, .830 slugging percentage and a 1.442 OPS. On the mound, the lefty was 4-1 with a team-best 1.30 ERA in 18 appearances. Struck out 65 batters over 53 2/3 innings, permitting 37 hits and 24 walks.
