A wave is a rhythmic disturbance that carries energy through mass or space.

The tops of a Transverse wave is called the crest which is the top of the Amplitude (which is the maximum distance the wave travels from the equilibrium), the reverse side or bottom side of the Amplitude is called a trough. (Seen in image above).

Longitudinal Waves are waves that occur when compression is added to a side of a spring and moves forward and backward.

The Longitudinal wave is made up of two areas, the rarefaction area occurs between the compression where the wave is weak in frequency, the compression area is where the high frequency of the particles occurs.

Surface waves are the in between waves, they show characteristics of both Longitudinal waves and Transverse waves. These waves can both move in parallel and perpendicular motions.

Other parts of the waves that are important are the direction of energy in which the wave is distributing which is determined by the direction of waves.

Wavelength is the distance between the waves that repeat usually marked off from crest to crest.

Medium is the substance the wave passes through, for transverse its a physical medium and longitudinal and surface can be fluid and solid.
