A Message from Pastor Kris
We are quickly approaching the Christmas season... and all the joy that comes with it! I tend to get very reflective as we approach the Christmas season, specifically about all God has done in our church and in our families over the past year. Of course, 2020 has brought its (often mentioned) challenges, yet God has still moved in mighty ways.
God has continuously challenged me to move my thinking from the frustrations that were, toward the future he is creating. The coming months will be full of many causes for celebration. We have begun our 2021 Upward season, despite the challenges we are anticipating ministering to over 150 athletes. We have continued to bless our community and our world through Operation Christmas Child, Beirut Lebanon Relief, and increased partnership with community ministries.
We are also preparing for upcoming challenges. If you are like me, Christmas Eve at Shawnee Alliance holds a very special meaning. It has been a highlight of my year since my first Christmas Eve service in 2003. This year, in addition to our four in-person services, we will be creating a special service designed to be shared by families in their homes. We recognize not everyone will gather physically at the church this year, but we still want to bring some of what is special about our Christmas Eve into your homes.
Thank you for your continued support and ministry. I'm often reminded of the heart of Shawnee Alliance by this simple truth: When many circled the wagons, we chose to reach out and bless others. I am blessed to serve this amazing congregation.
Beirut Missions Update
Thank you, Shawnee Alliance Church, for your donations that have helped those in need in Beirut, Lebanon! This is part of our mission as the body of Christ!
The Beirut explosion on August 4 damaged several buildings, including the Christian Alliance Institute of Theology (CAIT) and Alliance churches, ministry sites, and offices. Pastor Charbel Malak, CAIT’s Academic Dean, thanks the global Alliance family for their prayers, donations, and support. He writes, “We have been able to fix around 182 damaged homes. We distributed approximately 44 Bibles and saw three people come to Christ. All receive a daily video message from the Word of God that I record and send out.” Praise God for His mighty provision through His people! Pray that hurting people will find the hope they so desperately need in Jesus, for this life and the one to come.

Children's Christmas Program
"The Great ADVENTure" is a retelling of the Christmas story through the reminiscing of two men who were there to experience it all. The story opens with these men remembering their days as boys and the HOPE that they had for a coming Messiah. The adventure will lead you to see Mary’s FAITH in what God was doing, the shepherd’s JOY at the announcement of a Messiah and the PEACE that the Christ child brings. The adventure ends with a challenge for each of us.
All kids preschool-grade 4 are invited to join The Great ADVENTure! Parents, we will be practicing songs for this program during regular class times on Sunday mornings. Here is the QR code with the songs for you to practice with at home.
Dress Rehearsal: Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9-11:30AM
Performance Sunday: Sunday, Dec. 6 at 4PM
If you have any questions or for more information, please contact Miss Erin (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Miss Kayla (email@example.com).

What is Advent?
The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival”. Advent happens on the last four Sundays leading up to Christmas. As Christians, this serves as a reflective reminder of Jesus’ birth (the celebration of Christmas) and symbolizes the church today as God’s people wait for the return of Christ. This year, advent begins on Sunday, November 29.
Each Sunday of Advent leading up to Christmas brings a different focus:
1) Hope – Psalm 71:5
2) Love – John 3:16
3) Joy – Luke 1:14
4) Peace – Luke 2:14
There are many different traditions followed in celebrating the season of advent. There are also other orders to these weekly themes that people use to follow this Advent calendar. One popular tradition is using a wreath with a circle of four candles, one lit for each week of advent. Other traditions add a fifth center candle that is lit on Christmas Day. No matter the tradition or practice, advent is intended to be reflective of what God gave to us when he sent his son to the earth on that first Christmas!
Day of Prayer, Praise and Thanksgiving
"Whoever offers praise, glorifies Me." Psalm 50:23
Instead of meeting in a large group on Saturday, November 28, here are some ideas to help you offer up your praises:
1. Choose someone you are grateful to have in your life and let them know by a phone call or sending a note.
2. Choose a Psalm of gratitude and meditate over it. (Psalm 1:1-2; Psalm 95:2)
3. Make a list of things with which God has blessed you. (Psalm 103:2)
4. Journal over His goodness. (Psalm 34:8)
5. Spend time outdoors with God declaring the glory of his handiwork.
Thankful people are happy people!
Bible Reading Plan
Bring transformation to your life by reading your Bible! You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices. You can find a free Bible in any of our church lobbies. Please feel free to take one when you're with us at church on Sunday or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word:
- Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
- Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
- Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
- Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.
Try it out this week! Add a chapter from Proverbs every day to the below plan. (This list is also posted every Sunday on social media.)
