School to Summit Mansfield Primary School

The School to Summit Outdoor Education program at Mansfield Primary is unique and a key feature of our school. It is designed so that it builds from Prep to Grade 6, challenging each child, each year as students work towards the Grade 6 School to Summit camp.

The program develops students’ knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, while also building independence, confidence and self-esteem. Students are challenged both physically and mentally and learn the importance of safety, self-management, camp skills, tent set up, camp cooking, orienteering, map reading and much more.

Our School to Summit program begins with our Buddy Program. During Prep Transition your child joins a ‘Buddy Group’. These groups help Prep students in their transition to school and continue until Grade 2. Big Buddies help the younger students settle into school, find friends to play with and with school work. During Term 1 the whole school sets off on a Buddy Day adventure where each grade and their buddies explore different regions of our community.

During the Buddy Day the school breaks up into the following groups;

  • The Prep & Grade 4 students.
  • Grade 1 and Grade 5 students.
  • Grade 2 and Grade 6 students.
  • Grade 3 students spend a day learning to be 'Big Buddies".

Grade 6, the BIG one! School to Summit camp!

The Grade 6 School to Summit camp is what students at Mansfield Primary School work towards. They set off on an adventure of bike riding and hiking to get from school to the summit of Mt Buller under their own steam. It’s a 4 day bike/hike that helps build confidence in students, knowing that they can achieve anything they set their mind to and is a rite of passage before heading off to secondary.
