The Benefits of the Holy Spirit A Bible Study

Throughout Scripture, people were filled with Holy Spirit and lived with the Holy Spirit. The benefits from being filled and living with the Holy Spirit are abundant. He pours out fruit, desire for purity, a knowledge of intimacy with the Father, gifts, boldness and much more.

Do you struggle with confusion, dullness or fear in your mind? The Holy Spirit brings life and peace to your mind.

Romans 8:5-6 NIV - Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Do you struggle with a sense of loneliness, abandonment or anxiety? The Holy Spirit brings an experience of the Father heart of God that will deal with our frayed emotions.

Galatians 4:6-7 NIV Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.

Are you bound in a cycle of temptation-sin-confess-temptation-sin-confess, etc.? The Holy Spirit can break that cycle (if you are willing to live with him).

Galatians 5:16 - So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Do you need boldness in evangelism? You need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 4:31 - After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit

When you live with the Holy Spirit, he bears fruit through you.

Galatians 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

The fruit of the Spirit is the evidence of his work in your life. Are you missing some of the evidence? You need more of the Holy Spirit.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit
The Manifestational Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NIV - Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

The Motivational Gifts

Romans 12:6-8 - We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

The point is the Giver, not the gifts. When you are in relationship with the Holy Spirit, he will pour out his gifts upon you. He is generous (James 1:17).

Desire him and desire his work (giftings) through your life. The Holy Spirit will empower you and gift you for every situation that is needed.

You don't have to be "gifted." You just need to know the Giver of the gifts.

Don't Forget!

Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

The Holy Spirit is with you. But, do you want to be filled with him?

Ephesians 5:18 says "keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit."

Fresh surrender to the Holy Spirit will bring a fresh in-filling of the Holy Spirit with all of the benefits that you need right now.

Take time to surrender your mind, emotions and will to the Holy Spirit. Repent of sin that would repel the HOLY Spirit. Then call out to him for a fresh in-filling. Ask the Holy Spirit for more of himself to fill you.
