CONNECT ISSUE TO HIT MAILBOXES SOON!

Final touches are being made on our next issue of CONNECT, scheduled to hit mailboxes in mid-December. Here's what you can expect:

--A Q&A with homeless coordinator Jan Cicco on what's being done to address the region's homelessness crisis.

--Profiles of two TC restaurants--Grand Harbor and Dai Ho--which were recently bestowed Bib Gourmand designations by the renowned Michelin Guide.

--An introduction to the 94-year-old Woman's Club of Temple City, which has experienced a rebirth of sorts.

--A history lesson on origins of the Temple City Performing Arts Pavilion.

--An interview with TC resident Terri Cummings and why her home on Agnes Ave. is a local, holiday destination.

--Critical updates on highly anticipated projects, including the Eaton Wash pathway and Temple City Library renovation project.

NOTIFY ME SERVICE

Now you can get City news releases, crime data reports, even the City Manager's report via text or email. Just subscribe to our NOTIFY ME service.

(Improvements are planned for the next few months to add notifications for public meetings and quarterly financial reports.)

HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST

Forget “less is more.” Temple City’s holiday decorating contest returns this month, giving community members license to indulge in all manner of colorful lights and other accessories for their homes and businesses.

New to this year’s competition are changes to the judging process. Residents, for starters, are no longer required to enter or register for the contest.

CITY CLERK

COUNCIL MEETING

At the December 3 Council meeting, the City Council will consider the following items: Receive a presentation from the U. S. Census office, recognize the Temple City Library Bookmark Contest Winners, consider a lease agreement with the Los Angeles County Library of city properties located at 9050 E. Las Tunas Drive and 9167 La Rosa Drive, and receive a second reading and adoption of an ordinance for Comprehensive Zoning Code Update.

YOUTH COMMITTEE

The Youth Committee’s next special meeting will be held on December 19 (i.e., 5:00 p.m., in the Council Chambers), the members will receive city updates and discuss upcoming events. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

PARKS AND RECREATION

LIGHTS ON TEMPLE CITY

The Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its annual Lights on Temple City event on December 6 at Temple City Park, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. This free community event will feature sled and snow play areas; visits with Santa Claus; take-home arts & crafts; and food for purchase. In addition, the beloved holiday parade down Las Tunas Drive (from Cloverly Ave. to Temple City Park) begins at 7:00 p.m., culminating with the lighting of the redwood tree in Temple City Park by Santa Claus! LIVE OAK PARK ANNUAL TURF RENOVATIONS

The open turf and ballfields at Live Oak Park will be closed for annual turf renovations December 2, 2019 – February 2, 2020. The renovations will consist of aerating, over-seeding, and top-dressing the turf along with adjusting and/or modifying the existing irrigation as needed. The park and walking path will remain open during this project. The photo depicts the exact closure area.

WINTER CLASS REGISTRATION

Registration for winter recreation classes begin December 9. You can sign-up online at www.templecity.us or in-person at the Live Oak Park Community Center (10144 Bogue Street). Classes begin the week of January 13, 2020, at Live Oak Park Community Center, unless otherwise noted. Space is limited, so reserve your spot early! For more information, please call (626) 579-0461
