THE JEHOVAH WITNESSTHE ONE THAT FLEW TOO CLOSE THE SUN
It was a warm summer Wednesday, as the gentle summer breeze caressed the green leaves on the tree at the back of the house. Bayo was having an afternoon nap on the hammock. It was his day off work and the neighbourhood kids were all at school. Bayo, a 35-year single bachelor with a long term girlfriend but showed no signs of getting married. He was the type of man most single ladies put in their prayer points every Sunday at church.
Her name was Ngozi, a 30-year-old graduate and a newly converted Jehovah's witness, It was on her first solo door to door visit.
With the combination of the Sun and gentle breeze, Bayo was in paradise. Deep in slumber, he could hear the Afrobeat chimes of a the door bell but paid no attention to it. The chime then followed with a tap on the door. Bayo went to the door wearing a sleeveless vest and shorts, rubbing all possibilities of sleep dust from his eyes. He opened the door and there she was standing right there, with a large bible in her hand and fist full of religious flyers. Her name was Ngozi, a 30-year-old graduate and a new converted Jehovah's witness was on here first solo door to door visits. She introduced herself and asked the usual questions most Jehovah witnesses do. Bayo was slapped silly with the beautiful package that stood at his door. He said yes to every question and invited Ngozi in.
After 20 minutes of Ngozi spreading the word, Bayo asked her if she wanted a drink and to his surprise, she asked for a Jack Daniel and coke on the rocks. Bayo's jaw dropped to the floor, sucking in his disbelief like a Dyson cleaner. With silly manner of thoughts racing through his mind, he prepared the drink and made one for himself. He knocked his drink back informing her that he had an appointment at the mall and had to get dressed. Ngozi asked if she could catch a lift uptown and Bayo agreed.
Bayo dashed up to his room to take a quick shower, wondering how a Jehovah witness could ask for a JD and coke at 12:30 in the afternoon. He shrugged his shoulders as he turned off the shower, wiping himself down. He opened the ensuite door to the shock of his life. Ngozi was sitting on his bed undressed and only wearing her underwear, reading her bible.
