Wendlyn. A land of myths and monsters - of legends and nightmares of flesh. Celaena has been drinking, gambling, and fighting since arriving in Wendlyn. Rowan finds her and brings her to Queen Maeve. Celaena is glad because she wants answers from her aunt about the Wyrdkeys (Magical things that can summon monsters). The queen says she will give Celaena answers. But first the queen wants to see what has become of Celaena’s fire magic, the great, uncontrollable power that left her when the king banned magic in Erilea. The lessons with Rowan are impossibly hard, and he is harsh and brutal with Celaena. He continually asks her to shift into her Fae form and then to summon her fire magic. She works hard trying to call her abilities in any way he requests, but at first it’s to no avail.

Dark: You’re nothing but a coward, Nehemia had said to her. Vengeful: She had made a vow—a vow to free Eyllwe. Reunion: I’m taking you where you’ve been summoned.” As long as she got to see Maeve and ask her questions, she didn’t particularly care how she got to Doranelle—or whom she traveled with..

One theme i found was even though you trust your friends/family: Page 365: He knew plenty of harrowing injuries. He’d bestowed plenty of them on his enemies and friends alike. In the grand sense of things, her back wasn’t close to some of those wounds. Yet when he had seen it, his heart clean stopped-and for a moment, there had been an overwhelming silence in his mind…. Maeve had lied.

important quote #1 Page 107: The ground felt grassy, but she couldn’t see it. Couldn’t see anything. Nothing to hide, not to the side, not behind. There was only her and the swirling black.. This is important because this starts the main conflict.

Celaena captured in the total blackness

Page 107: Whatever he was, despite his shape, he wasn’t mortal. In his perfection, in those depthless eyes, there was nothing human.. This sparks up her curiosity to figure out that this person wasnt mortal and she needed to find out more about it.

the immortal Valg

A teachable lesson in this book is family is more important than friends: Celaena is in Wendlyn training her magic to withstand the Valg. she has fire magic and needs to protect her family. She does whatever she can to protect them. When She is swallowed up by the Valg and Rowan goes to help her. Rowan is practically her Fae Brother and her carranam.

The book was amazing. There was action, romance, comedy, and sadness. This book is meant for young adults and older. The thrill of the plot is fantastic. It is fast moving, and it is it has the friendship of a lifetime. It teaches multiple lessons as well. I truly recommend this book. This book deserves a rating of five stars
