hanging on By: Jenna Borucki

The photo albums sitting next to the books on the shelf say she

wants to remember the past.

She treasures memories with her family, says the old portrait

sitting in the center of their hearth.

The picture frame hung on the empty wall says she appreciates

past experiences, but makes room for new ones.

The souvenirs on top of the desk say she often reminisces on previous

adventures, while the globe made of puzzle pieces placed next to the trinkets

says she looked forward to future travels.

She has many stories to tell about her heritage, says the proudly hung rice

hat and silk embroidery.

The books of various genres perfectly aligned on the bookshelf say

she wants to know more and broaden her horizons in order to be prepared for

the future.

The clothes waiting to be put away and the unmade bed says she

is too busy "living in the moment" to do little things.

The alarm clock sitting of the nightstand by the bed says she must be

on time and ready to make new memories.

However the yearbooks sitting on the bed say she still hangs onto the past

and reflects on it repeatedly.
