Catskill Regional CEO UPDATE

From the CEO

Catskill Regional Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Schiller

Dear Colleagues,

We have an exciting new service for patients in our County. Patients presenting with stroke symptoms in the Emergency Departments at Callicoon and Harris now have immediate Neurologist evaluations available to them through the use of Tele-medicine technology. This new program, provided through an arrangement with Westchester Medical Center, is an excellent use of technology to help bring regional expertise to our patients. Please join me in congratulating our Emergency Department teams on this new clinical care advancement!

Yours in Service,

Jonathan Schiller

Thank You

Critical Access Hospital Award

Christina Haff and Boomer Bojo accepted our National Rural Health Association's Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in the country for Quality and Patient Satisfaction Awards.

We are so proud of the efforts of all our physicians, nurses and staff at Grover M. Hermann Hospital, who contributed to achieving this designation!

Good Catch Awards

From L to R: Congratulations to Josie DeSimone, Kelli Hessinger, Terri Kaese and Blanca Rodriguez, who received Good Catch awards. A good catch occurs when corrective action and/or timely intervention prevents an incident or medical error from happening. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and are judged by a Patient Safety Subcommittee. For more information about the Good Catch Award, contact QA Data Coordinator, Katie Haun, at 333-1294 or khaun@ghvhs.org

Foundation Hosts Garden Enhancement Fundraiser

The Catskill Regional Medical Center Foundation held a fundraising event for the enhancement the Woodland Wildlings Garden on September 5 at Catskill Regional Medical Center.

The event raised over $8,000 and included a $5,000 donation presented by the Liberty Garden Club. To date, the project has raised nearly $22,000 in local grants and donations.

Those who attended the fundraiser event enjoyed an evening of relaxation and celebration in all that the beautiful gardens have to offer. Shirley Hornbeck, Catskill Regional Medical Center Auxiliary President, and long-time volunteer, was honored for her service to Catskill Regional.

Through these fundraising efforts, the Catskill Regional Foundation plans to expand and grow the gardens, back patio and walking trails to further provide comfort and tranquility for patients, visitors and employees.

Once complete, the newly enhanced 1+ acre garden will provide unique seasonal experiences. The proposed plan includes maintained, wheelchair accessible pathways with seating throughout; manicured lawn areas; old growth trees; three designated areas of unique foliage: shade, a compost zone for growing plants; a sun zone; native shrub thicket; flagstone sitting area with umbrella tables; a water feature and a pergola with swings. A network of fitness trails traversing the entire Catskill Regional campus will also be established to promote both employee and community health.

It's Flu Season

The New York State Department of Health requires everyone to either receive an influenza vaccination (flu shot) or wear a surgical or procedure mask for the entire flu season.

Those who do not get vaccinated must sign a written declination and abide by the hospital policy of wearing a protective mask for the entire flu season.

November 15 is the deadline for either influenza vaccination or your signed declination to be received by Occupational Health. (The Influenza Vaccine Consent Form, declination form and the vaccine information sheet for 2019-2020 is available on the hospital intranet under Employee Health.)

*If you already received or plan to receive a flu shot somewhere other than CRMC, documentation must be received by Occupational Health by November 15.

Occupational Health will be giving the flu shots in the CRMC office on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those who receive their flu vaccines by November 1 will be entered into a raffle to win an iPAD!

*For those staff members over 65 years of age we also have the high-dose vaccine thanks to our respective pharmacies. If you have special needs such as illness, fear of needles, etc., please contact Occupation Health to schedule a special appointment or to obtain any additional information.
