Ancient Rome One great adventure

Rome is in Italy. Rome city is on the eastern banks of river Tiber Rome lies to the west of the Apennine Mountains being close to the Tyrrhenian Sea.Rome has the seven hills called Viminal, Quirinal, Palatine, Esquiline, Capitoline, Caelian, and Aventine and they are separated by the Tiber River.

Rome gets the Mediterranean climate. In the summer the weather is warm and when it is winter the weather is cold. Summer lasts from June to September with the temperature of 30° C to 14° C . Winter lasts from December to March with temperatures of 3° C to 16° C.
The Roman forum was a place filled with temples,government buildings, and markets. It was downtown for Rome.
The Tiber river is the main river in Rome and the most important landmark of Rome.
The Colosseum is a large spots area where Gladiatorial games were played there. It’s the world’s most famous sports area , people like slaves and thieves went there and they fought each other ,sometimes animals or wild animals . Also animals even fought animals .

Romans also enjoyed theater most of their theater idea were copied from the Greek, wealthy people put on free plays for popularity.

Roman statues were realistic, they had warts, wrinkles and not so attractive features.There statues were very different from the Greeks , they copied Greek ideas but put their own twist to it.

Some parts of Roman culture are gone but remain interesting. They adopted culture from their neighbors, Greeks, and Etruscan's but imprinted their unique stamp on the things that they borrowed . The roman empire spreads this culture far , affecting diverse areas of the modern world.

They ate fish,shellfish, seaweed, wild figs, barley,wheat , they also ate fruits and vegetables.
Wealthy people hired tutors to teach their young children at home. Some older boys went to school to learn to read, write and public speaking. However older girls didn’t go to school instead they learned reading ,writing and household duties. Wealthy people made sure their kids were well educated . Poor people couldn’t afford to send their children to school. So their children were not well educated. They sometimes lived in in only one room.
The families are large with not only parents but married children ,their families ,other relatives and enslaved servants. The father was the leading person in his family. That is called paterfamilias or it means that he is the father of the family and he has complete control over his family.
They worshiped in temples, they honored their gods and goddesses by praying and offering food.Government officials made offering in temples. One of the temples name were the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus.

The people in ancient Rome spoke Latin , Latin was the “language of power”.
