Self Designed Exhibit #2 Note taking skills: Written Notes Versus Typing notes on a computer

Proposal:

Typically, I prefer to hand write my notes just because I did not grow up with a laptop and that is what I have been taught to do. For three consecutive psychology classes, I am going to hand write my notes per usual. However, for the following three consecutive psychology classes I am going to type my notes. After the test, I am going to see which technique made my grade stronger and which topics I knew better, depending on what type of notes I took during class.

Three Classes of Handwritten Notes:

Class 1:

Class 2:

Class 3:

Three Classes of Typed Notes:

Class 1
Class 1
Class 1
Class 2
Class 2
Class 2
Class 3
Class 3
Class 3

Conclusion:

It was found through my test results in the Post-Test Analysis form that I did better handwriting my notes and retained that specific information more.

Reflection:

I have always wondered what it would be like to type my notes instead of handwriting them. Although it was much quicker to type them, I retained more information by handwriting them. I am a visual learner and during the test I remembered writing down specific topics and what the professor said about those topics. I will continue to handwrite my notes even though it is not as quick, it allows me to pick out which information is more important and remember it.
