I absolutely adore the visual style of Hyper Light Drifter. It's simple, yet mysterious art style, combined with pixel art allows for some of the most beautiful, awe inspiring, and sometimes horrifying graphics and gameplay I've ever seen. It's truly inspiring.
For a long time after playing the game, I've wanted to hold the weapons that the Drifter (the main character) wields in-game. One of the easiest ways for me to do that is to use the power of virtual reality, and I have just the game to use them in!
Robo Recall, an amazing VR game in it's own right, has an incredible mod kit that allows you to modify any weapon currently available in the game, adding your own models, animations, sounds, and anything else you can create, using their Blueprint system. Using this mod kit, I'll be able to take my voxel weapon models, inspired by Hyper Light Drifter, and not only hold them in VR, but animate them and interact with them too!
Now, there are 4 models I created specifically based on Hyper Light Drifter's weapon style, as well as a few other models I created to combine Robo Recall and Hyper Light Drifter's aesthetics:
All of these weapons need to have parts separated, rigged, and brought into UE4's Robo Recall mod kit so I can create their separate mods! Check the links below to see each mod's creation (coming soon) as well as a side project were I recreated the Drifter himself in voxel 3D!
