Places Belle Reve, Elysian Fields

Belle Reve

Means "Beautiful Dream" in French and is the Old Plantation House where Stella and Blanche used to live before her parents died. Stella moved out to be with Stanley and Blanche lost the house because she had so much debt and much to pay off.

Symbol : Belle Reve can symbolize the dream that Blanche has of living in a place like that and living a nice lifestyle. "Oh, I guess he's just not the type that goes for jasmine perfume but maybe he's what we need to mix with our blood now that we've lost Belle Reve."

"There are thousands of papers, stretching back over hundreds of years, affecting Belle Reve as, piece by piece, our improvident grandfathers and father and uncles and brothers exchanged the land for their epic fornications--to put it plainly!"

Elysian Fields

According to Ancient Greek is the final resting place for the Heroic and Virtuous. It is also the street name in which Stanley and Stella live on.

Symbol : Can be symbolized as where Blanche spends her last moments because after she moves in with Stella she is sent to an Asylum.

"They told me to take a street-car named Desire, and then transfer to one called Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at-Elysian Fields"
