Introduction to the Sport Industry The growth and expansion of the sports industry

The Sport and Leisure Industry as a whole is worth over £200 Billion and provides 2.6 million jobs in the UK. This as mentioned in the lecture represents 9% of all employment in the UK.

The UK Sport and Leisure Industry is very diverse and encompasses a great many organisations within it.

This seminar requires you to complete some research into one specific area of the sports industry i.e. sports retail; a specific sport; coaching programmes; any sports development agencies / trusts; any governing bodies of sport; the health and fitness industry; local authority leisure centres; sports events etc.

You are required to complete the following tasks:

1. Analyse the growth and expansion of this area, trying to find key statistics to support your discussions.

2. You should identify the key factors that have led to the growth in this area of the sports industry.

Lastly you should think about the influence this area has had on the whole of the sports industry over the last 10-15 years.

This is a formative assessment and therefore you should put your findings into a 500 word report, and submitted in the turnitin link, titled 'Expansion and Growth within the Sports Industry'. You will be provided with feedback for this, which will be useful for the assessment
