Jason Wannemacher, '12 Alumni spotlight

Jason Wannemacher, DNP, APRN-CNP, ACNP-BC, CCRN, CEN, NRP, graduated in 2012 with his Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati. For almost 15 years, he has worked for a Dayton-based health system. He also serves as a flight nurse practitioner for Metro Life Flight. Jason recently shared thoughts on his time at UC, his career and his advice for nursing students.

Favorite Memories of UC College of Nursing:

While at the college of nursing, Jason best remembers lively discussions with classmates. He appreciates the social relationships he built with colleagues, and still keeps in touch with a few, with whom he likes to catch up and learn about the goings-on in other hospitals across the country. For his academic and career success, he credits the clinical instructors who volunteered their time to provide one-on-one training in practical settings.

Career in Nursing and Beyond:

After earning his undergraduate degree, Jason worked as an RN at Premier Health Partners. While earning his MSN, he continued to work for the health system and commuted to Cincinnati twice a week for classes. When he graduated, Jason transitioned to an acute care nurse practitioner role, for which he felt fully prepared. He later went on to earn a doctor of nursing practice.

Jason also serves on the staff of Cleveland Metro Life Flight, which provides air medical services in northeastern Ohio.

In his spare time, he likes to travel, get together with friends and workout, which helps him de-stress.

Advice for nursing students:

Find a mentor who can serve as a resource to help build your foundation and develop astute nursing skill.
