Reclaim Kala Aam Intersection Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, india

PROJECT OVERVIEW: Reclaim Kala Aam Intersection is a prototype to deliver a SDG oriented approach to planning and design in a small city of Bulandshahr of 0.25 million inhabitants. In such a small city close to National Capital Region of Delhi, more than half of the population walks or cycles to work daily and 50% of fatalities from road accidents are from these vulnerable road users. Kala aam intersection is one of the prime conflict areas of the city and also a symbol for the city. With support from the Office of District Administration in Bulandshahr District and Bulandshahr Development Authority (BDA), TRIPP proposes an intervention to introduce a safer public realm for pedestrians and cyclists that is currently non-existent, traffic calming for high speed motorists, freight vehicles and two wheelers, safe lighting to increase visibility at crossings that reduces accidents at night. The project is part of a city wide engagement to accelerate SDG oriented planning and design and a 2 km long pilot corridor that not only increases safety of pedestrians, cyclists, enhances walkability but also face lifts the street and intersection as a prime public space.
